Ashworth College Ashworth College is a HUGE waste of time and money! Norross, GA Internet
I enrolled in the Medical Billing & Coding course almost 3 months ago at Ashworth College. I have worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for the past 10 years and I wanted to extend my training and knowledge by becoming a certified coder. For those who aren't familiar, let me explain how medical coding works. It uses something called the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Currently, ICD-9 is what is being utilized and has been for many, many years. ICD-10 is currently in the works, but it has been delayed several times and currently is not scheduled to go into effect until AT LEAST October of 2015, nearly a year and a half away. Of course, there is always a very strong possibility of it being delayed again. The huge problem is that Ashworth College only sends it's coding students material on ICD-10 and absolutely NOTHING on ICD-9. Therefore, by the time I finish the course, ICD-9 would still be in use, but I wouldn't have been educated and trained on it because Ashworth only sends it's students material on ICD-10. I have emailed Ashworth College NUMEROUS times regarding this issue and they NEVER ANSWER MY EMAILS! They most likely don't reply to me because they know I'm right. They know they aren't providing their coding students with all of the material that they need to become successful. Additionally, Ashworth does NOT provide you with your actual coding certification. They simply give you one of their worthless diplopmas that simply says you completed their course and then you're on your own as far as taking the actual test to become certified. You have to pay for that, too. I would not recommend Ashworth College to anybody at all. I have just canceled my enrollment and I have enrolled at Allied Medical School, who has an outstanding coding course and they actually provide you with the testing at the end of the course to become certified, as well as have externships available for graduates and provide a 1-year membership to the AAPC. They even assist with job placement. Ashworth College has NONE OF THAT! Bottom line - avoid Ashworth at all costs. They are nothing but a huge ripoff! Don't waste your time and money!
