my mom has been in the hospital twice in august.the first was critical and they needed to use a noninvasive ventilator on her face to get her o2 levels down they were high...when she came home apria healthcare services was prescribed by the doctor for a at home bipap machine{noninvasive ventilator}my mom refused the service and we also could not afford it...the second time she went to a different hospital of our choice and was treated  the same but  found the real reason for  her respiratory distress ...it was pneumonia and sepsis..when she came home again we were told she will need this machine ...again or she will die or be back in the hospital a week later!..let me tell i lost count on the phone calls from apria pushing this bipap machine ..we couldnt afford the 20% of $211 after medicare pays 80%..we were told that we were approved for the other 20% {we werent told by whom} after i filled out and gave them the  proper paperwork they asked for .the machine arrives..d**n nearly killed my mom the first night after a half hour because it wasnt set up properly... mind you these are supposed to be experienced therapists...they tried several times to make it work and we found out her oxygen concentrator wont work with the bipap machine because she needs a high  flow concentrator .we have a low flow concentrator..so a week passes by and i have to call because i didnt hear a peep since then..we were told that she needs to swap concentrators which my mom would not do because she trusts the comany she deals with and she doesnt like anyone messing with her oxygen supply..another week goes by still nothing...we make numerous calls to get the machine removed  its useless just sitting in the corner gathering dust...we get  a runaround saying the doctor has to put in a prescription to have it removed which is total nonsense because the man i spoke to said there are ways around that...a total of 3 weeks have gone by now..and im sure they billed medicare and now we received the bill for the $211! we were told we wouldnt get billed for it that was the  main reason why the machine was refused the first time around..we simply could not afford the $211/mo .we were convinced at that point that she really doesnt need this machine at all she is doing much better now without it because the secondary hospital treated and released her successfully......so i called again in anger to remove it or i will take action...still no answer!so here i am..do not trust this apria healthare company!!!they do not care about the patient they only see dollar signs and they will call and call then lie and try to scare you into reasons why you should have their product...the phone calls are so numerous and ridiculous and obviously still no action...beware of this company!
