Ross, that is unfortunate what happened to you. Believe me, I've had it done to me several times, and I live in downtown Denver. BUT: Here are some tips to help you out, or for others who may consider parking downtown in the future. 1) *Always* pay by check in lots that allow checks ... often, you'll see who to make the payment to (and the company's minimum requirement to pay by check) on the parking payment boxes. Now, please include on your check this information as THIS is important, and has SAVED me: A) Parking spot # B) Street intersection (list 2 roads) C) Possibly name of nearby business D) Date/Hour on when you parked E) Make/model/possibly your license plate of car I know this is a LOT of info with limited room on your check but try writing small. Once your check is cashed, you can order a copy of it. Now you have your receipt ("proof") of your payment. You can submit this proof to: * Small Claims courts * Troubleshooter's consumer advocate & radio show host Tom Martino * Better Business Bureau * The police 2) When dealing with parking lot attendants, I don't trust them. Please get: A) A physical receipt or something in **writing** as parking attendants must carry "logs" and cash bags. B) Get parking attendant's names, shifts, & name of their supervisor. He/She must show you proof that he/she is an employee. Many people are still scammed in parking lots by people pretending to be parking lot attendants! I know this is a pain, but I carry a pen and check book these days esp. for when I park in lots 'cos I don't trust anyone's words. Now that I have a cell phone cam, I take pics of my car, where its parked, and what the payment requirements. I know, how anal, but after being ripped off $100 myself, I don't trust ANYONE. In your situation, I know there is not much to do as you have little proof. Also, most people are in a hurry & do not have the time to deal with writing checks and checking out the parking attendant's identity. But if you have the time, please do so.
