I enrolled in Ameritrain computer school in March 2000. I signed up for A+/Net+ and MCSE. Due to schedule conflicts and unforeseen problems I had to reschedule my A+/Net+ class until late fall 2000. I finished the course around March 2001. At that time I set my MCSE class up for late fall 2001. That class wasn't available so I took the one the following Feb 2002.

While I was waiting for my class to begin I was offered a job with the State of Maryland in the IT field. The job required 4-day workweek 10 hours a day. This would later cause a problem with my class schedule.

The teacher, while informative, was also very intimidating. She was the teacher you hoped you didn't get. After about 3 classes I could tell that I had too much on my plate. Along with the stress from my job and class I was not able to focus enough to learn. I asked the teacher about a different schedule or if there was anything that could be done to help out my situation. She informed me that she would look into it and get back to me. At that point I postponed my class for a later date and e-mailed my teacher who was also the Director for this location.

We e-mailed back and forth a few times and I was told that I could be helped and that I would be accommodated. Then after several attempts by me to e-mail her back and getting no response I drove up to the school to find the doors locked and the school, closed down. That was when the real mess started.

I contacted SLM Financial and told them that I never received the MCSE class and that the school was closed. The only information they had was the pervious numbers and web pages that were either disconnected or lead to nowhere. I told them I would gladly pay for the class I took plus my books for the MCSE if they would remove the other charges for services not rendered. They said unless Ameritrain filed for bankruptcy there was nothing I could do and I was liable for the debt.

I went back and forth disputing and having extensions and time put on my account so that they could help research this and help me out. They said that they had not received any info that Ameritrian had filed bankruptcy but they would call me if anything developed. They never did.

Just recently I found a website called www.asfb.org that lead me here and has helped me get the information I need. The Webmaster informed me that Ameritrain has already filed bankruptcy. I am not surprised. Ameritrian and SLM Financial Has ruined my credit, caused me to lose a car, and prevented me from bettering my situation by re financing my home.

My advice is please stay away from SLM Financial. The have had a history of this action and I believe that this will continue unless something is done about it.
