I used to work at the training school with Steve Gouvela, Douglas Davis and Paul Tiller. Steve was really the guy who took the business down and messed up things in a really big way. It was one of those situations where they grew too fast and got too big too soon. There was a large amount of great training delivered at that facility and many of the graduates who worked hard, studied hard, and took the tests were able to go on and get great jobs in the IT industry. It's unfortunate that you had a bad experience.
I know for a fact that Paul Tiller worked to get everyone placed at New Horizons for training after the school went under, and they could go recieve that training without paying any additional monies. Steve Gouvela didnt really care either way at the end of the day and just let the hole thing slide. One of the most popular courses that earned much review was the Windows Server class. Below is the desciption;
After completing this course students will be able to configure AD DS in their Windows Server 2008 and Windows server 2008 R2 environments. Students will also be able to: - Describe the features and functionality of Active Directory Domain Services. - Perform secure and efficient administration of Active Directory. - Manage users and service accounts. - Manage groups. - Manage computer accounts. - Implement a Group Policy infrastructure. - Manage User Desktops with Group Policy. - Manage enterprise security and configuration by using Group Policy settings. - Secure administration. - Improve the security of authentication in an AD DS Domain. - Configure Domain Name System. - Administer AD DS domain controllers. - Manage sites and Active Directory Replication. - Monitor, maintain and back up directory Service to ensure Directory Service continuity. - Manage multiple domains and forests.
This class was also a really good one:
In this course, students install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, and learn information and skills that will be helpful on the job, and prepare for the CompTIA Server+ certification examination, 2009 objective. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: - examine server fundamentals. - identify the hardware components of a server. - describe the features of server software. - examine the various types of storage systems used in servers. - install hardware components on a server. - configure servers. - examine the issues in upgrading server components. - identify some of the industry's best practices for deploying a server and the various strategies of securing, accessing, and remotely managing the server hardware. - troubleshoot servers. - describe disaster recovery concepts and techniques.
I think this one on SharePoint is a real positive one as well:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: - identify basic functions of collaboration technology and Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 team sites. - add and modify list items and work with list views. - add, edit, and share documents across libraries and wikis. - communicate and collaborate with team members. - work remotely with SharePoint content. - customize your SharePoint environment. - create a team site. - perform basic site administration
At any rate, i hope you ended up getting your training at New Horizons and that you were able to go take some tests and get some money back out of your training investment!

I used to work for the same company where Porter Tiller previously worked, Solid Computer Decisions. As you may or may not know, SCD was also a computer training company that was closely allied with SLM (Sallie Mae) who abruptly closed their doors in April 2002. They too promised that the closing was temporary and that they were reorganizing with the intention of reopening in 2 weeks. Students were locked out of the classrooms without training and employees were out of work owed thousands of dollars in backpay and expenses. Mr Tiller was the leading "recuiter" for SCD, who excelled at doing "whatever it took" to sign up someone. Very interesting that he has landed on his feet in a similar capacity with another questionable organization.... There's a lot of people stuck with $12,000 loans that they have to pay back and don't have anything to show for it. My advice check out the training center throughly and don't borrow money from SLM.

FOR ALL OF YOU STUDENTS INCLUDING MYSELF. DO NOT FALL FOR ANOTHER AMERITRAIN SCAM INVOLVING THE ELITE TRAINING SCHOOL. AMERITRAIN IS SIMPLY USING THIS TACTIC TO USE UP ALL YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY PAID TO THEM TO SQUEEZE OUT THE LAST OF YOUR CLASSES. THEY HAD NO INTENTIONS OF EVER DOING ANYTHING MORE THAN SCIPPING TOWN WITH OUR MONEY. WHEN WE TURNED THE HEAT UP ON THEM THEY DECIDED TO SCAM YOU ONCE MORE BY SENDING YOU TO A PLACE TO "EARN THE REST OF YOUR MONEY". THEY WILL USE THIS IN COURT AGAINST US IF YOU LET THEM. WE ALL NEED TO FIND A PLACE TO GATHER ALL OUR NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS SO WE CAN MOVE FORWARD WITH OUR LAWSUIT AND PUT STEVE GOUVEIA AND DOUG DAVIS IN THERER PLACE. PLEASE RESPOND.
