Several months ago had to move my mother into a nursing home and move some of her furniture and belongings from Memphis to New York where I live. I hired Lanigan Movers in Memphis, an Allied Mover, and they gave me a quote which I accepted.

When they arrived in my neighborhood in New York, they had my small shipment in a huge tractor trailer and the driver said that he couldn't make the turn onto my street so that he would have to go back and transfer my load onto a smaller truck and charge me around $400 extra.

I went back and forth between the original shipper in Memphis and the local carrier and no one would take responsibility or even share the extra cost with me. So they ended up putting it into storage and refusing to deliver until I paid the extra cost and also the storage. It was a nightmare.

When I originally moved into my house, I had a much larger load and there was no problem with getting the moving truck to my house. No one from Allied had told me that they would be arriving with a tractor trailer so that I could have then made arrangements for a smaller truck to come. They claim that this is a normal procedure and that it is my obligation to pay if the truck that arrives is a tractor trailer!

Needless to say, I will never use them again. They were unpleasant to deal with and customer service was a joke.
