Complaint Review: ALL POINTS MOVING & STORAGE - SILVER SPRING Maryland

I called the company they came out the same day after giving me an estimate over the phone. The first indication I had that they were crooks was when they boxed three lamps that I had already dismantled and put into boxes and charged two hundred plus dollars for that did not cost $50 a piece. Anyway, there was no other way to inflate the price so the initial quote was for $1050 final was 1250. Originally, I was to pay a third and the balance on delivery of my goods. However, once again, they changed they wanted $730 and the balance $520 on delivery. I paid them. They had informed me that they would be able to deliver by May 12th and then I was subsequently informed no the earliest would be towards the end of the Month.

I received a call to say they would deliver on May 19th, I was to have cash they would not take check or money order or anything they wanted cash. They could not tell me when they would arrive but would call me. So on May 19th at around 10:30 I first received a call from a man called Paul who said he was on his way to deliver to me he was may be two hours away from his destination although he would not tell me even when asked where he was.

He kept on shouting, have cash you understand, if I don't have cash lady we wouldn't unload the truck. Before we unload the truck I want the cash. So I told him no, you will be paid when you have unloaded my things, setup my bed etc., Oh yes, but make sure you have cash. I told him I never pay by cash and this was an unusual request. Inform this Guy Paul it would take me at least two hours to get home as I was on the other side of town and to wait because I was leaving now.

I took an excuse from work which was frowned upon and left, meantime I was told that my wages would be ducked. So I left anyway, only to arrive at 2:15 with no sign of the movers ever having been. I called the number several times, Paul answered said he was on his way. After about an hour I called again, told me he was headed for storage because he was not coming out anymore.

I told him I left work on his instructions and told him I was at the complex waiting for him. What kind of games are you playing. Told me to give him a few minutes he'd call me back. I waited a half hour never heard from him so called my daughter in Maryland to get hold of the person there. Then to call the driver Paul to let him know I was waiting.

So, the man Darrel called and said they would work with me, I was to pay an extra three hundred and something dollars and they would deliver my things. I was livid, I told him why should I have to pay any money for something that has already been contracted for. Well, he said if you want your things you are going to have to pay. Make up your mind, otherwise the driver will go and put your stuff in storage and that will cost you more. Well, I said all I had to pay was 520 and that's what I'm going to pay. Called me back and said he advised me to work with the driver if I wanted my things it was out of his hands now. When I called back the driver told me he was at the storage and was not going to come out again today.

I was so upset I could not believe the scam, I realized there was nothing for me to do. So the next day I went to Riverside Police Department and filed a complaint. The officer advised me to take them to small claims court. Meantime, I had lost half a days pay, driven like a mad man and was absolutely exhausted by the encounter.

The following week I once again tried to get hold of the company and find out where my goods were. I was told them were in storage somewhere outside of california and I needed to pay a total of $1275 before they would consider delivering my goods. Well I resolved to do this because I needed to get settled to be able to concentrate on my new job.

So once again we scheduled for June 3, 2003 but as the time grew closer I decided that this was not fair and why would I pay this extra money to these people after they have caused me such distress. So, the more I thought about it the more I became resolved not to pay them. Although, the day before I had gone out and gotten a certified check and everything. So Tuesday arrived, I was in the apartment when the phone rang to say they were on their way and to confirm the address. So I said to this guy Paul so you never did intend on May 19th to even attempt to deliver you had me on a wild goose chase. He said oh no we never was going to deliver we put your stuff in storage so I asked him why did you lead me to believe you were on your way and I had to take time off work and rush to be there to meet you.

Well, we on our way now. I picked up my keys and deliberately walked out the apartment door and got into my car and drove off. I did not come home till past 10 pm that evening. At first they had lied how they had tried to deliver but I was not there. So they went to the office and they got hold of me but I refused to respond because I decided to play tit for tat so they would know what it felt like.

The next day I went to my rental agent and she told me Edwina this time they actually came they were here did you get my call Yes I said but I was not going to answer now they know what it is like to tell people they are going to be there and not turn up. It is now July 1, 2003 and I still have not got my things nor heard a word from the Company. But you know what, I'm going to fight this. I found out from the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation that the company is in bad standing.
