Months after we rented a car to go to Madison, WI, we got an invoice from Alamo Rental stating that they would add an additional fee to my credit card because of an alleged toll road violation in Illinois.
Never happened.
There were three adults in the car. Not having any sort of EZ-Pass, we always went to manned toll booths and alway had a green light/raised gate when we went through.
Alamo gives no chance to dispute just -- boom -- slap on an extra charge. And it's pretty tough to prove that you didn't do something 4 months after the fact, when you've failed to video record your entire trip for your own protection.
What a shakedown. By the State of Illinois, Alamo or both.
This will be a dispputed credit card charge, needless to say.

Alamo claimed that they wanted to discuss this case. Told me to go to [email protected] to have it taken care of. There I was taken to a page where I was invited to rent another car from them. Finally found a tiny "Customer Service" link at the bottom. Hit that and filled out the standard "Dispute a Toll Charge" form. Must happen all the time. Hit "submit" and got the vague message that there was "an error (not described) an the message could not be sent." So much for customer support. Comcast, anyone?
