Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

These two companies (same owner) came out to bid a construction button up for my 82 year old mother's small condo bathroom.  AFR Contruction came out and bid the construction job in the amount of $2183.90.  Not long after, I asked if they could inspect and bid for Mold Remediation as well.  They then informed me that they would NOT even come out to bid unless I would give them a $400 deposit for the construction buttom up.  They stated at the time, that in order to make sure the multiple bids are not just used to get a settlement and no work performed, a deposit ($400) was required.  I gave them a credit card and was surprised when the charge appeared for $412.  They had charged me a 3% credit card fee without any notification of any kind.

This company made certain to inform me that "payment in full" was required before mold rediation was performed in the amopunt of $1703.17

This including $100.09 per hour for 8 hours for a Technician.  There was NO discussion or notification of ANY kind that any monies from their "Contruction Bid" of $2183.90 were going to be used for the seperately bid (and requiresd 100% payment) Mold Remediation job.  Upon completion of the Mold Remediation job (which I paid in advance in full via check), I asked if they would be starting the construction button up the next day? I was then informed that they wouldn't be able to begin for 6-7 weeks because of problems within their company.  I explained that this was unacceptable and I couldn't have the bathroom with open walls, no light etc for a month and a half or more.  I explained to them that I would have to find someone else to do the construction button up, and they needed to refund the $400 ($412) to my credit card.

They refused and claimed that some of the work from the construction was done by the mold team.  There was no notification of any kind that this would be the case.  If in fact this was the case without any notification, this would be double billing (with no notice).  The mold job was paid in full, the mold tech was paid in full, and no other monies for the mold job were due.

This is not about $400 or $412...This is about taking advantage of a 82 year old disabled woman and trying to charge monies not due.  The company was given a $1703.17 job, and was paid for it.  They had the opportunity to do the construction job, but couldn't get their scheduling together.  All they had to do was refund the deposit on the job that they couldn't do in a timely fashion.  In addition, they don't return phone calls in a timely fashion.  My last phone call with them, they said (Beth COO) that their field Manager Edgar would be calling me in 5 mins.  That was an hour ago, NO CALL. This is their normal. Don't get Ripped Off like my mother.  Find another company.
