Got my notice from AFNI last week referring to a Bell Atlantic (Verizon) phone #. I called them and talked to a rather pleasant woman (Holly). She attempted to help, but it still came down to "You have to Pay" She said that the phone number on the notice may not be the number I was being billed for. The account was apparently opened in March of 1998 to 2931 8th Ave. Apt 8b New York,NY.

Now I have never lived in NYC and in March of '98 I was stationed at Offutt AFB in Nebraska. She also mentioned something about the account being at Frederick Elementary School. Well there's a bit of a contradiction. She did say that this wouldn't be reported to the credit bureaus since it was so old (at least something was accurate). But then she said that the SOL was irrelevant "A debt is a debt. It doesn't go away. You'll have to pay it." I was directed to their website and filled out the dispute screen (they already had all the info anyway as Holly read it to me over the phone). Now i wish I hadn't. Will be sending my cease and desist letters in the morning. This has got to stop. If there's a class action suit filed, count me in.

They didn't make up the bill. The information provided to them was from the original creditior. It probably wasn't verizon at the time. If Verizon bought the old company that is was they are calling themselves now. If you really didn't cause the debt and you know you didn't cosign for someone....go back to the website where you filed the dispute and file fraud. Send proof of where you were at the time if you still have it to support your claim. If you really didn't do it, just file fraud online with them at the website you did your dispute.

Everyone check your credit reports. All of mine were clear eccept for one Account Review Inquiry request made by AFNI in April '07. I wonder if this is where some of the info. they have came from. Being military my SSN is on nearly everything. All they need is an SSn against a name and they can get just about everything.
