I recently finished grad school and was moving from Indiana to South Carolina to start a new job. I had less than three weeks to move and felt the internet would be the quickest way to find a company. I entered my information on a website that disseminates potential client info to multiple movers.

I was contacted by a "Carine Gall" from Transworld Moving (1-800-341-1795, [email protected]) who quoted me 400 cubic feet for my studio apartment for a total of $1175. She told me that was based on a rate of 2.75 per cf and that she had over estimated the cubic footage, so that I wouldn't end up paying extra. This price also included a 75$ charge because I was on the second floor. She also told me my belongings would be delivered in 7-10 days.

A date of Dec 2 was set for my pickup, between 9-12 in the morning. The night before I got a call from the driver "Ron" who said that he was still in New Jersey and wouldn't make it until afternoon. They ended up arriving at 7pm after I sat around at waited for them all afternoon.

After 7 days had gone by and I had not heard from them, I began to call their office toll free number. This was Dec 9. They informed me it would be "a few more days", not giving me an exact date. They they said they would call the following day, with a specific date. They never called, so I called them again. This time the man argued with me that the promised "7-10 days" referred to business days.

So I gave them the extra several days and called again (Dec 16). On this day I was told that their truck was in an accident in Virginia and was not going to be fixed for several days. On asking if that was the only truck they had, was completely ignored and told they would call in a couple days when it was ready.

I had been sleeping on the floor and wearing the same 4 sets of clothes for several weeks at this point. This has caused me incredible frustration as I was trying to start working and getting settled in SC. I had and still have literally nothing at my disposal. I don't even have dishes. I got other people in my family involved in calling them after this, thinking the more we bother them, the more likely it is they will actually deliver my stuff.

They gave the run around to the rest of my family that I had calling them. They hung up constantly, lied about their location (one guy even told my mom the number she called was the "Texas" office - despite the south florida area code - do they think we are THAT stupid?), and continued to say that they just couldn't deliver my stuff yet. When asked where my stuff was, the answer of a warehouse in NJ was given, but they gave out two different addresses for that supposed warehouse. And that answer only came after a combined total of nearly 30 calls to them over the course of two days.

On Dec 20 they finally gave a date of Jan 2 for estimated delivery, one entire month after pickup. We didn't call them again until Dec 30. We were told delievery would be Thursday (today) or Friday. After not hearing from them today I called them. Now they are saying, not yet, but maybe Sunday or Monday. I honestly don't think they even have my stuff any more.

I don't know what else to do, and I don't understand why they would even WANT my stuff. I have been a college student for 6 years (grad students are notoriously poor) and only had a studio apartment. All my furniture was hand-me-down or garage sale or someone else's garbage. I don't even have any money to give them if they try to make me pay more to get it back. The only items of any monetary value were a computer, VCR, microwave and stereo. I just really want the irreplaceable things back, like yearbooks, textbooks, thesis research literature, picture albums, etc.

Don't let this happen to you!! Rent a U-haul and move yourself!! If anyone has had success getting their belongings back from these bastards, please let me know how!
