Academy Collection Service, Cold call misrepresenting themselves as attorneys threatening legal action Philadelphia Pennsylvania
This batch of debt collectors began their assault on 12/9. A cold call to me on a settled Citibank acct that was "transfered" to them. Out of the gate they sounded like attorneys and told me the call was regarding a summons and complaint, etc. I jumped right over them and demanded the usual; name, co. name, supervisor, etc. They backed down and said they were following up on a demand letter sent "12/6" which turned out to be untrue.
I called them back and challenged them on the fact that there was no letter and they tried to put words in my mouth; "refusal to pay". I rebutted their attempts to get me to settle for a lesser amount of the alledged debt, demanded their demand letter so I could rebut in writing. Lo and behold I receive faxes and letters with dates beginning on date 12/9; settlement agreement for entire amount, for lesser amount, delinquent letter, additional phone calls. All documented by me.
When I called them the one time and basically caught them breaking the law and blatantly violating FDCPA I told them I was coming after them and that this one fella(who really poked me) better sleep with one eye open. This will be the first time I will file an FTC complaint as well as one with the AG's office. They are going to wish they never had called me. Have to fight. Apathy is worse! I welcome those who are dealing with this soon to be defunct outfit.
