North Carolina Furniture Scam
Contacted ABC Furniture, Greensboro NC. 04/30/99, order a dining room set, was informed it would take 8-12 weeks. Initial payment of $100.00
(Visa) starts the transaction. You then receive a letter requesting 50% of the purchase price. I sent them a check for
$1100.00 dollars, which they cashed 05/12/99. I made several calls after the 12 wk period passed to check on the status of the furniture. They informed me there were some delays. Received a letter mid August stating the furniture had arrived at their warehouse and requesting the remaining 50% of the balance. Sent them a check which they cashed 09/23/99. They said we would be getting a call shortly from the shipping company, no such call ever came. Placed calls to ABC Furniture 09/31/99, 10/01/99, and 10/02/99, referred to a Ms Daily, left her 6 messages and never received a return call. We now have been passed off to Janet - no response. Sent several Emails and faxes (10 attempts) requesting a refund -no response. As of today (11/05/99) we have not received our furniture or a call addressing this issue. We continue our calls and have contacted every state and federal consumer complaint agency. BE WARY!!
