About a two weeks ago I received an unexpected email regarding Abfab Management and Jane Rooney from a very concerned parent.  I wasn't sure what to make of it but after reading her email a few times I decided to contact her and share my painful experience with abfab.  A little over two years ago I met Jane at the suggestion of my then boyfriend who at the time worked with Model Scout where Jane had just started working after being fired by BMG (at the time I didnt know). I spoke to her over the phone and she seemed nice and friendly so I agreed to meet with her.  I told her that I had been modeling professionally for nearly 20 yrs and wasn't sure if I wanted to continue because of my kids but I wouldn't turn down a solid bookings.  Months passed and then she contacted me about working with her new agency. I booked 4-5 paying jobs all within one about a 3 week period.  Then two months passed and I hadn't been paid!  Concerned, I contacted Jane to inquire about my checks and she told me that the client hadn't paid her invoices and she would get to the bottom of it and call me soon.  So, I waited a few weeks and still no payment and no call from Jane!  So, again I called Jane and got what seemed to be the runaround from her intern. At that time (3 months and 1 week after I did the jobs) I called the clients Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue in Orlando whom I already had a working relationship with and was told that they had paid the invoice two (2) months earlier!  Beyond pissed I told my then boyfriend who introduced me to that woman in the first place about the situation.  He told me not to worry and he'd call her on my behalf.  Nevertheless, he called time and time again over a 2 week span and was either lied to or jerked around by Jane about my payment. We then decided to get printed copies of the paid invoices from the clients and show up at abfab unannounced and demand my payment!  Sadly, I remember the look on Jane's face when I asked her about my payment and I remember listening to the quick lie that she told.  I'm still amazed at how effortlessly she looked me in my face and lied!  My boyfriend got so pissed that he threw the printed copies of the paid invoices from the neiman marcus and saks on her desk and told her that she was lying and she needed to write a check right then or we were calling the police!  Omg but even after she realized we knew the truth she then blamed it on her make believe accountant who didn't exist!  After that day I did my homework on Jane Rooney and found out that she was a phony and a fraud. She didn't have any verifiable modeling agency or agency experience other than 6-8 months with BMG Orlando and 2 months with Model Scout Orlando (both fired her).  I found out that she is an alcoholic and may be a drug user or dealer because her then teenager son was arrested for drug trafficking of extacy pills (she consulted with my then boyfriend). We also found out that Jane was broke and homeless because of a recent foreclosure and didn't have a car.  But she was dating her attorney and then married and divorced him for a US green. I'm sure there's more that could be said about her but it would be overkill! My advice is to pay close attention to what others are saying about Jane Rooney and her shady modeling agency otherwise you'll be lied to and scammed like many others!

Whether or not you obtained payment in the end, you can still report her actions to the DBPR (http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr). Each violation can lead to a hefty fine and the ultimate suspension of her license. You can also inform the department of your suspicions that she lied on her application about her length of experience. If you are no longer part of the agency, you have nothing to lose.
