On September 19,2013 I was driving home from work when I got home I saw the warning on the dash said Transmission Hot. The next morning I drove the 18 miles to Honda of Danbury and spoke with the Manager there Jay Whitlock he recommend Jim at Aamco in Danbury and called him to let him know I was coming. I met the owner Jim who at first seemed very nice I told him about the warning on the dash and he said they would look at it. I asked how much it would cost if the transmission was broken and needed to be rebuilt he said about 1800.00 so they took the car and the next day called me and told me the overheating due to something internal to the transmission and had to be rebuilt. I said ok. 2 days later they tell me it is Fixed, I go to pick up my truck and they tell me it needs a transmission cooler. And the bill is 2,418.00. I had only brought 2000.00 with me as they only take cash and was shocked that the bill 618.00 higher and they were saying I needed more work I paid Jim the 2000.00 cash and he wrote me a receipt but gave me no work order or bill, I did see him shred something right after I paid him. I did not trust them at this point so I drove it 18 miles and the transmission over heat light came on again. I took it back and told them it is doing the same thing it did when I brought it in. They tell me it needs a transmission cooler for an additional 350.00 and they would give me time to pay it off. I was so angry; I asked them why they rebuilt my transmission when there was nothing wrong with it? They say they saw slippage. My transmission was not slipping it was overheating 1 time, what they did is rush to replace the transmission and only after they put it in discovered the problem was the cooler had malfunctioned. They put in the cooler and the truck ran fine and no more Overheating. When I asked them why they did not just replace the cooler instead of the whole transmission they told me “If you knew what was causing it why didn’t I replace the cooler myself”, I was shocked and angry. I went back the next week to make payments on the balance and went to give him 200.00 cash and asked for a receipt and was refused one so I told him I would not give him cash without a receipt and he said he would not give me a receipt, I asked for a copy of the work order and he told me no. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and Jim’s response was he had no recollection of me and wanted me to provide a copy of the work order (that he never gave me) I replied with the only document I received and that was the receipt for 2000.00. He responded my sending a copy of the receipt I sent. He called me the next day asking for the balance due I told him since he does not recall me or working on my truck then How can I be sure you even worked on my truck? I asked again for the bill or work order and was told no. I informed him only if he recognizes that he did work on my truck and remembers me to the BBB would I talk to him. Then he sent this whole letter to the BBB explaining how I owed them for this and that with no response to the work they did. He called me the next day asking for payment and I told him I would have to think about it and having a copy of the work order or bill would make it easier. I think they did not diagnose anything and just put in a rebuilt transmission and only then discovered it was overheating, so telling me it was “Internal to the transmission” was a lie. I feel the only amount I should have paid was the 350.00 for the cooler and not the 2000.00 for the transmission. So I think I should sue him for the 1650.00 he over charged me and he can waive the balance owed of 768.00. Do I have a case here and if so how should I proceed
