I purchased a Toshiba bluray player model BDX3400 from TigerDirect.com on 1/22/14 which advertised a $10 mail-in rebate for a single online purchase of $50.00 or greater. The order total was $71.96. I submitted my claim information online on 1/24/2014. The rebate claim required a signed rebate form and a copy of the invoice. I mailed the required documentation on 1/25/2014. The rebate tracking shows the documentation was received on 1/31/2014. The rebate tracking shows the claim was put under review on 2/7/2014. The rebate tracking shows the claim was declined on 2/19/2014.

The reason shown for declining the rebate was "Does not meet client validation is missing." On 2/20/14 I called the customer service number for 4myrebate.com. The customer service representative I spoke to said they did not know what the reason for declining the rebate claim meant, that it looked like I submitted all the required documentation, they would send a request to management, and I would receive a response by email within 6 days. I did not receive a response within 6 days.

On 2/26/14 I submitted a form on TigerDirect.com's Rebate Assurance Policy page of their web site. On 2/27/14 I received an email from [email protected] stating my rebate claim had been resubmitted and was awaiting validation. On 2/27/14 the rebate claim tracking status showed my rebate claim was again under review. On 3/7/2014 my claim was declined a second time. On 03/10/2014 I let 4myrebate.com know I intended to file a Better Business Bureau complaint.

On the same day they again put my rebate claim under review. On 03/11/2014 I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. As of 03/18/2014 my rebate claim is still under review for a third time. 4myrebate.com and TigerDirect.com are a scam. They are both owned by the same company Systemax. TigerDirect.com lists items with a low after rebate price, and 4myrebate.com declines the rebates. 4myrebate.com used to go by the name OnRebate.com until they were sued in 2009 by Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum and forced to change their name to try and hide their past. From wikipedia.com:

Infoworld report

Infoworld's Robert X. Cringely reported in 2006 that "Tiger's sister company OnRebate.com, which handles payouts for the discount dealer appears to specialize in the 'insufficient documentation' gambit," and, commenting on the volume of complaints on the Internet, that "Tiger's rebate promises appear to be toothless." Consumer-reported difficulties obtaining the rebates led to an investigation by the Florida Attorney General and a failure to maintain a satisfactory BBB rating. According to a former controller at TigerDirect, improperly unpaid rebates were intentional: "...the concept was that if the customer complains you send them out the check to make them happy. But if they don't complain, they totally forget about it, that is the concept of these rebates. People forget that they sent them out."

State of Florida lawsuit

On September 4, 2009, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum filed suit against TigerDirect, OnRebate, and their parent company Systemax, charging the companies with failing to provide rebates to customers. Systemax responded that a separate class action lawsuit making similar allegations was filed in federal court in 2007 and was dismissed on August 31, 2009. The company denied the allegations in the Florida Attorney General complaint and said it intends to defend itself vigorously. This suit was dismissed by the Florida State Attorney on October 26, 2010, under a settlement agreement with no admission of wrongdoing.
