On July 5th, I ordered the "FREE" sample off of the website: www.skinnymechocolate.com/free-trial. I understood that I would be paying for shipping and gave them my card information. They charged $5.34 for shipping, but for a full box of chocolate, I felt this was not unreasonable. On July 16th, I received the chocolate via in my mailbox. The box was damaged, and the chocolate had been exposed to the heat of Arizona where I reside (109 degree that day). There was no protective packaging to prevent damage to the chocolate.
My disappointment quickly turned to anger when I checked my bank account. Before I had even had the opportunity to try this free sample, a charge of 37.77 was debited from my bank account. When I called them on July 17th, they explained that by ordering the free box I was actually signing up for a subscription service (which is stated in the superfine print on the webpage). However, assuming that the box I received was considered the "free sample," I was charged for another box of chocolate (through a subscription) that I NEVER received.
This company is, at BEST, UNETHICAL in their business practices and in my mind, fraudulent. I never intended to sign up for a subscription service but will accept responsibility for not reading fine print. What I will not accept is FALSE ADVERTISING that advertises "FREE" Samples that cost over $40.00! BUYER BEWARE. Any company that has to rely on unfair business practices such as these do not have products worth their value!
