Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My mother and I were lured into signing up with Academe Advantage. We received a letter and an email from one of their reps Roger Albertson, inviting us to a free workshop. At that workshop, they hype up their program and services, tell you how good and beneficial it could be to students and their families, etc.

Mr. Albertson talks to you and the family member you brought with you to the workshop about the program. It is $1,995 but they also offer family plans which go over $2,000 and they also offer a monthly payment of around $175. Me and my mom were both shocked because that's a LOT of money to pay for such a program. Also, I had no idea if I really needed to be in the program because I had a lot of free resources at school as it was.

However, Roger Albertson repeatedly told us that we could cancel and get a refund of monies at any time if we felt that the program wasn't suiting us. So we decided, to hell, why not try it? I could cancel it at any time and get a full refund, so where's the harm in trying it?

But I was sooooo wrong. Two weeks later I discovered that I really didn't need or want to be spending so much on a program that is all virtual, and that i barely had enough time for. So I called and tried to cancel, only to find out that the deadline for me to cancel was up.

They only give you three days after the workshop to cancel. THREE DAYS. Even return policies are longer than that.

What's more, Mr. Albertson lied to both me and my mom by saying that we could cancel and get a refund at any time.

Also, he hid the cancellation terms on the contract. There were two sheets of paper on the contract, and one of the papers had a pink carbon copy paper behind it so I thought there was nothing on the back of it. I was wrong. There, hidden from view on the back of the contract was the cancellation terms that Mr Albertson dated even though he didn't show it to me and my mother.

He had also purposefully folded the contract papers in such a way that the cancellation terms would remain hidden, being the reason why I didn't know about the cancellation until two weeks later.

When I called, they refused to let me cancel, even when I explained my situation to them. They also said that if my mother doesn't pay up, it'll go to collections and thus it'll made her credit look bad. Currently, my mother are in the process of trying to get out service cancelled and get a refund for it.

You can get a lot of these services for FREE at your school or at the nearest college.

I hope no one else makes the same mistake I did. Please, make sure you read all of a contract front and back, page for page, line for line, word for word. You do not want to be caught up in this mess.

In the meantime, we will continue to fight them until we finally got our money back.
