I purchsased 2 vehicles via auction, both represented as "detailed" descriptions and being "examined" by Purple Wave.  The first vehicle had an AC compressor that was inoperative, but listed as working.

The second vehicle was a diesel truck that someone in the past had removed all the emissions equipment.  I received the vehicle and was unable to register it at all.  

I tried to work with Purple Wave and the sellers, both of which refused to address the issues.  Their attitude was, "too bad, we got our money."  

Purple Wave is a clearing house for inoperational, broken, issue ridden items.  There is no reason to buy from such a clearing house.

While I certainly understand how an auction works.  Purple wave posts a detailed description of the item.  They inspect it before listing it.  The owners know (the AC doesn't work, or whatever the issues are) what is wrong with the item, and Purple Wave could certainly do a thorough job of inspecting the items.  But the Owners conceal what is wrong, and Purple Wave abets that fraud by doing a perfunctory once over of the item. 

According to Purple wave, if they see a key in the ignition, they assume there is an operational engine, but they do not actually start or test that presumption.  They become complicit in whatever the owner tells them by not verifying the description they are going to place in the auction profile.  Some items will actually list the problems and whether the machine is working or not.  However, there is no requirement for this, and no requirement that the items actually work. 

It is a virtual auction, so their inspection and description are crucial to the auction process.  When the owners fail to give an accurate representation of the state of the items, then that fraud can be shown and prosecuted, just as if you are buying from a dealer.  Purple wave has the moral obligation to confirm the item being auctioned and hold the seller responsible if the description or state of the item is different than represented.  It is basic honesty, not as the response made it seem a buyer be ware situation.

If you want a vehicle that's guaranteed and has some kind of warranty, buy a certified pre-owned one from a dealership.  Doesn't sound like you understand how auctions work.  From their FAQ:

Bidders understand that items sold on www.purplewave.com are sold 'as-is, where-is', and without warranty.

Equipment descriptions are based on our direct observation and information provided by our selling customer. All information is intended to be as accurate as possible. However, we recommend customers inspect prior to bidding. Purple Wave listings are not intended to be substitutions for inspection. The details provided may differ on equipment based on information provided by the consignor. An error or omission in the listing will not change the results of the bid. It is the responsibility of the buyer to conduct any inspection and examination necessary to satisfy him of all material facts before placing a bid. All assets, unless stated otherwise, are sold 'as-is, where is'. Buyers assume all risks at the conclusion of the auction. All sales are final. No refunds given. Credit card transactions may not be reversed.
