Ms Northcross contacted a nonprofit animal rescue group in November 2018. She said that she was due to travel overseas to "attend seminary" the next day, and the boarding arrangement she had made for her three cats had fallen through. She asked if any group volunteer could board the cats until she made other arrangements, as she did not want to turn the cats over to the local animal control. An unemployed volunteer sympathized and accepted the cats.

Here's what happened over the course of the next months.

    1. Ms Northcross did NOT go to seminary the next day. She never did. Instead, she vacationed for about three weeks.
    2. Ms Northcross promised to sign a boarding agreement with details of her preferred veterinarian, in case one of her animals became ill.  But she didn't.
    3. Ms Northcross would not pay the paltry $50 per month boarding fees, except for one month. She kept saying she had no money, although she was traveling internationally during this time and receiving child support.
    4. In February 2019, one of her cats became ill. She was informed of this, but would not pay the veterinary bills. The volunteer (still unemployed) was forced to take the cat to the vet and pay the bills herself. To this day, Ms Northcross has owed this volunteer over $600.00. Ms Northcross' only response was to cut all ties with the volunteer, ignoring the needs of all of the cats she had left behind while vacationing.

Before filing in small claims court, the volunteer researched Ms Northcross. Turns out she is marketing herself as a "soul coach", selling seminars in Ireland for thousands of dollars. Her website explains this scam in detail.

After some more research, I'm adding this information.

It's interesting that Paul Bennett and Digital Media Solutions always use Gmail addresses for their business email. Would any legitimate company do this?

Also, Paul has no experience or credentials in web design. His former career: cleaning carpets. And I can't find any background for his "designer" Don Elliot, so I'm beginning to think Don is a figment of Paul's imagination.

This cat originally came to us with the name Precious. One of Maeve's children remarked that the cat was so shy that "I'd never see her", but she became friendly after a few weeks with me. She was adopted to a new home and is now doing well. I'm attaching a photo of Precious (now with a new name) in her new home.

More lies and some strange, made-up names.

Ms Northcross' rebuttal is so full of whoppers that I can't keep up with them.  I'll copy and paste her rebuttal in italics.

Anna and this organization, The Cat Lady, have deplorable business practices.

There is no organization in DFW Called "The Cat Lady".  I think she means Dallas Cat Lady, who I am not affiliated with. And I don't know who Anna is, either.

Our beloved cat DIED in their care. He was placed in a home with deplorable conditions.

The cat died of FIP, after being taken to a local vet several times.  FIP (feline infection peritonitis) is not common, but not curable.

We were moving overseas and the adoption of our three beautiful cats had fallen through the night before we flew to the UK.

Not true. Ms Northcross and her family did not go to the UK the night before - this was one of their lies to our volunteers.  They went on vacation in some AirBnB instead.

Mojo was a glorious and healthy 3 yr old with a wonderful personality.

He and our other two pets were placed with Linda Ashton in Richardson whose home reeked of urine from the front yard. We were never allowed inside.

Again, not true. The city of Richardson has visited my home and there is no smell. The cats were not brought to my home, anyway. They were picked up by another volunteer and brought to my home.

He was kept in inhumane and unsafe conditions - in absolute filth. After repeated requests Linda finally sent the photo below of our beloved Mojo. Notice the bare concrete floor covered in filth.

The concrete floor had been sanded before refinishing. Concrete floors are much easier to clean with 20% diluted bleach, which is the same technique used by kennels and veterinarians.

Mojo soon became ill and died from a virus related to the filthy conditions.

Not true.  He died of FIP after he was taken to the Vet House in Richardson Texas.

After Mojo died, Linda refused to let us have someone pick up and rescue our other two beloved cats unless we paid her $600.00.

There was NEVER any offer to pick up the other two cats. Another big fat lie.

The cost she said she incurred for putting our beloved cat down.

Costs were for veterinary care, testing and fees from The Vet House.  We have copies.

These cats were family pets of my two children who had to be told Mojo had died in her care and she was now holding their other two pets hostage.

Ms Northcross legally abandoned these animals.  We have rehomed one; another is in a foster home.

All this while we were overseas in the UK and unable to deal with this locally in DFW. Both Linda Ashton and Anna from The Cat Lady began a smear campaign attacking me personally and trying to harm my business on social media.

I have no idea who Anna and The Cat Lady is.

This was in retribution for me not turning over $600.00 for the death of our pet.

I was unemployed at the time. Paying $600 made me miss a car payment. And there was nobody to take her other two cats. There has never been any offer. This is another lie.

Linda Ashton's behavior is consistent with someone who has serious emotional problems. A restraining order can put a stop to the libel but my beautiful cats can never be replaced. Never surrender a pet to this organization, never let them board a beloved pet or a rescue, and please never donate! The local veterinarians can attest to her reputation.

Let's hear from some local veterinarians, then.

Cats in DFW deserve much better care.

They deserve much better than to be declawed and then dumped by Maeve Northcross.

Dealing with Maeve Northcross is stressful as she's a nonstop liar.

We still do not know where our other two cats are, or if they survived their stay at Linda Ashton's house or have died from the same virus. I have attached photos of my beautiful and healthy cats the week they left for Linda's as well as the photo of Mojo on a bare concrete floor covered in filth. It simply breaks my heart.

The black cat who was terrified upon arrival became much friendlier. She has been adopted out to a new home, where she's doing very well.  The gray tabby Snuggles - declawed - is with another foster home. Ms Northcross has never offered to pay for this animal's care.
