I had a doctor's appointment earlier today, and have been having some transportation problems, so I was set to use Lyft to get there....

Every day for the last week I have checked the price for the trip, and every day it was between $18 - $28. As such, I was prepared for the trip to cost me around $60 to get there and back, but then today when it was time to really request the actual ride to my appointment, Lyft was demanding $56 for a one way trip there. I thought this was extreme, but I had no choice, and booked the ride anyway.

I got to the doctor, completed my appointment then used Lyft again to get back home, but this time, just 30 minutes later, the ride was $18, which was a relief. I got home, and checked my Lyft app. to see that they had indeed charged me $56 for the ride there, which they deducted from my Lyft Cash balance, so I got in touch with them regarding the highly inflated price for the ride there. While chatting with the Lyft representative, I explained my situation, and they responded that 'after reviewing your case, we gound that you agreed to the $56 ride', and that they had determined it was legitimate.

Must be nice to be your own judge amd jury

The representative went on to explain that the increase in price could have been because of a 'surge in demand' at the time of the ride request', and that it was normal, as well as being my fault for accepting the ride at the price shown. I told him that the driver showed me his screen, and was only making $16 for the ride, but he just said the driver's payment has little to do with the actual cost of a ride, which further confused me.

I was livid by this time, and tried to explain that I had an appointment with a set time that I had to get to, but the representative just cut and pasted the same line about high demand times for ride requests, and that it was my mistake for accepting the ride at the price that was shown. As if I could just fly there instead, but my Superman cape is torn. This was strong arm robbery as far as I can tell, and I texted that I wanted my stolen money refunded immediately, but the representative just ghosted me, and left the chat session, as they tend to do whenever they know they are wrong!!
