La Morada apts take my deposit of $200 to approve a rental apt for me. They denied my rental because of my credit but they said they will give me my deposit back.

It's been almost 2 months and the deposit money never came.

Application Fees Are Generally Non-Refundable

What many of them do, as I previouly said, is once you are approved, they may take all or part of the app fee and apply to whatever deposit you eventually pay.  They don't always, BUT some do.

If your credit report comes back and you are found to have inadequate credit, then I don't know very many that would refund anything, promise or not.

You are right, is not a deposit. Its an application fee. But they said to me that part of the app fee was refundable and that is why I'm asking for.

Doesn't Sound Like a Deposit

I can't think of a single apartment that would accept $200 deposit for an apartment - usually such a deposit would be far higher than that, unless the place happens to be a total dump, and the apartment does not happen to appear to be a dump based on the website and google maps.

The $200 appears to be a cost associated for running the credit report and if the credit turns out to be satisfactory, then sometimes the $200 or a fraction of it, is applied to the total deposit.  If the credit report comes back as unsatisfactory, then there is no refund.

The only thing is that $200 seems high for the running of a credit report, but I can't judge that....

Are you sure it was a deposit and not an application fee?

$200 is very low for a deposit. That sounds like an application fee.  What did the paperwork say that you signed?

If it said REFUNDABLE deposit,  then contact them in writing again with the relevant facts and the contact person that said you were going to get your deposit back. I find it very unusual that there would be a refundable deposit as most times it is non-refundable. Read your paperwork to know for sure.

By the way, I am not affliated at all with this company so I haven't seen their paperwork in person. I just know from my own similar business that most deposits are non-refundable. And if it is an application fee, it is definitly non-refundable.
