I attended the ILX resorrts timeshare presentaion at the Los Abrigados Resort. I was interested in purchasing a timeshare somewhere, just not sure from whom and where. I travel to a certain location several times a year and stay at a very specific resort and hotel chain everytime. The sales agent that was doing the presentation asked me the typical questions: Where do I like to travel, what time of the year, how much do I spend, etc. I went on to explain to him where I like to go and stay. And obviously his response, we can help you with that and save you a lot of money. I was interested of course. He went on to explain "passport" weeks. Where I can trade and exchange with other companies. He said, that area that I was interested in and that time of year, is typically higher in demand. But as long as I plan at least months in advance, I shouldn't have any problem as long as I am somewhat flexible on the dates around that time of year. He also stated that specific resort and hotel chain are very easy to work with, trade and exchange with. And the typical "passport" ranges from $300-$800/ week. At that point, I was even more interested. I still was on the fence and hesitant on the whole situation. So the sales agent went and got his "manager" or his closer. His manager went over the numbers and said "if I buy today, I will throw in 2 extra passport weeks" and then continued to give me examples on how would be able to rent out the other passport weeks that I do not use to be able to make enough money so the timeshare could pay for itself. Of course, it made sense. I bought. Well... long story short... Now that I am planning my vacations for this year, 6-8 months in advance like it was recommended, I can't find or get anything in that location or that specific resort or hotel chain or even at other nearby resorts. I have spoke with owner services several times, and they can't find anything either. I have spoke with other trading companies, and they found 2 different weeks and my desirable locations (not within the 3 month time frame that I'm looking for however) but they quoted me $1800-$2400 for the week!! I found it cheaper on my own on vrbo.com. I bought this timeshare to be able to enjoy my vacations, when I want to and where, and that is what was sold to me that I would be able to do. Now ILX resorts wants me, the customer, an owner, to justify my vacations when I go, where I go, and not save any money at all!! I understand I need to be a little flexible on the dates that I am looking for and location, because it is based on availability. But C'mon, I've been open to that and still nothing that would work for me and my schedule for the time of the year, that I would be able to go, and not even close to the location that I want to go on my vacations. So basically, they sold me what I wanted to hear, not what really is a reality on how it is, what the services they provide, and what I would be able to benefit from being an owner of ILX Resorts. And even worse, it is virtually impossible to be able to rent the other weeks out. Owner services even told me that I was not be able to rent out my passport weeks unless it is to family or friends. Yes, coming from ILX resorts owner services, I am not allowed to rent out my weeks. Doesn't add up to me, NOW, that I am wanting to use my weeks and or rent them out. That is very misleading and misrepresentaion!!! Timeshares CAN be a great thing with the right comapny. ILX resorts present in their presentaions that their owners can benefit from being an owner, but the reality is, unless you want to go to non-desirable locations and non-desirable times of the year, you will not get what you want. I guess, If you don't care when or where you go, they would be fine. But if you ask me, ILX Resorts does not provide an enjoyable timeshare owner experience whatsoever.
