I rented a car from Hertz at Columbus Airpoirt (CMH) from May 24 – 26.  When I returned the car, I got a receipt for the expected amount.  However, when reviewing my credit card statement yesterday, I noted that the charge was $238 more.

I inquired with Hertz, who then pointed me to the CMH location and I learned that this is a licensee location operated by Byers Group.  Brittany Byers responded that I was being charged for “smoke smell”.  Her email included several pictures that I assume are supposed to be evidence of smoking, but they’re not particularly clear.  Most of the pictures are of the passenger side.  I did not have any passengers, so must assume that whatever she is pointing out came from a previous renter.  She flatly told me that the charge would not be removed.

The problem is, I don’t smoke.  No one was with me in the car at any point during the rental.  I didn’t notice a smoke smell.  So, I have been falsely accused of smoking in the car.  I have no way to review the evidence.   I have no way to prove the negative.

The cleaning charge needs to be credited back to me.
