annualcreditreport.com is supposed to provide American credit customers with the annual free credit report from each of the three agencies.

All three reporting agencies failed to provide my credit reports.  Since this failure occured at all three sites while accessing them through this portal, it is safe to assume that the problem lies with annualcreditreport.com, and not with any of the three credit bureaus.

Every American is entitled to an free of charge annual report of their credit as reported to the three credit bureaus under the Fair Credit Act.

annualcreditreport.com is supposed to be an online clearinghouse for these federally mandated free reports, but their site is poorly maintained and fails to engage properly with the credit bureaus.  Now I have to mail individual requests to each bureau and wait for them to arrive by snail mail.

If even one red cent of our tax dollars is supporting annualcreditreport.com, it should be stopped immediately.

I waited a week and tried again.  Once again, TransUnion had an error message.  "System Error.  Please call blah blah number".

I just went ahead and called the number to the automated phone input system, and was finally promised that my reports would snail-mail to me within 15 days.

I had no problem pulling down a credit report from the site - perhaps it's user error?

If even one red cent of our tax dollars is supporting annualcreditreport.com, it should be stopped immediately.  The only thing the site does is provide the reports.  They make their money off of people requesting their scores, which isn't free (and not supposed to be free), and for people who wish to repair their credit reports themselves.

If you're really only interested in your credit report, and not a score, then another thing you can do is if have a membership with AAA for your car - a AAA office has the ability to provide your credit report online, provided you're a member, and obviously they will do it for free.  You can also go to ftc.gov and request your report for free.  There are simply a lot of options at your disposal if you really need to review your credit report.  Best of luck to you.

I've never had an issue when I have used it.

While you failed to mention the reason, I would bet the reason has something to do with you either failing their online verification, or trying to request more than 1 per CRA in the last 12 months.  Perhaps you were using an ITIN instead of SSN.

Of course if it is something else why not provide more details?
