I worked at Sunbelt Business Brokers of New Orleans for 2 months. Here's a posting that summarizes my awful working experience with them: http://ripoffreport.com/reports/0/281/ripoff0281545.htm

If a business owner signs their listing contract and then they come across misfortune and have to close down their business, Sunbelt can still charge their $10,000 minimum fee to them! And businesses that are looking to be sold by the owner are typically struggling to stay profitable, so it's an awfully risky proposition.

All of the brokers there have been sued before for their practices. They'll pretend like they give a crap about you and your business in order to get you to sign the contract. But once your ink hits their paper, they'll screw you over at any chance if there's a dollar to be made off of it.

They do NOT actively seek out buyers for their listings. When a Business Broker isn't trying to coerce someone to sign one of those awful contracts, or when they're not closing a deal that puts money in their pockets, they're either playing around on a computer or having racist political discussions about how black people are ruining society. The owner, Herb Lonegrass, once pinned a distasteful joke printout featuring Jesse Jackson with a "Race Card" that was parodying a Master Card advertisement. Once again, they so NOT actively seek out buyers for their listings.

All they do is respond to people that answer their advertisements. Any business owner that has any business savy could put up these advertisments for free and not pay them 12% or $10,000 minimum to find a buyer. They can post for free on http://neworleans.craigslist.org, maybe hiring a lawyer to close the deal and get equivalent results.
