My 82 year old retired Mom received an unsolicited magazine in the mail that she didn't ask for. She just received a notice (months later) saying that she had agreed to some membership to Smithsonian Magazine and is in arrears, and that the notice is (get this!) the 6th notice. They are threatening collection. Where is notice 1 through 5, anyway?

My mother is in ill health from a car accident that damaged her neck, and takes blood pressure, glaucoma, pain killers, and diabetes medication. She is furious. We have contacted a consumer advocate in Burlington County, New Jersey. This is just another Florida based scam trying to harass and scare an eldery person to milk their social security check. If you receive something like this, complain to the Florida Attorney General and contact your nearest consumer advocate.
