Never rent from Public Storage especially the one at 1295 Selmi Drive, Reno, NV 89512.  Roger Lund is the current manager, and he has the personality of a falling leaf.  No people skills at all.  My spouse and I were at the facility ever day for a week, and finally moved out on October 24, 2014, my 71st birthday, and Roger did not even remember my first name or acknowledge me when our paths crossed.

The fees are excessive, and we only received one discount of $12.00 for six months, after asking the home office, in five years of having the storage unit.  Our rent started at $109.00 and ended at $146.00, when we terminated our relationship.  Throughtout this relationship, we were charged additional fees for insurance, of $10.00 and $20.00 per month in addition to the cost of the unit.  The insurance was not necessary as we had coverage included in our rental, and RV insurance.  When we terminated our relationship, no funds were refunded since we had paid through the end of October.  Apparently, no funds are refunded if you used the storage unit beyond the 6th of the month.  This is also the date they charge late fees if you pay your rent late.

Had we known the rates would escalate so much, we would have moved our items to another location sooner.  We have moved several times in the past few years, and it was not always convenient for us to return to Reno to move our items.

I just wanted to express my opinion, and hopefully help someone not make the mistake we did.

Thank you for listening.

Karen, Reno, NV

My inquiry -    " We currently have a storage unit at 1295 Selmi Dr., Reno, NV 89512. We are paying $146.00 for a 10x20 unit. I just checked your website, and the highest price I see for a 10x20 is $116.00 onsite. Why are we being penalized because we have had our unit for five years? I received a discount earlier this year, and it was $118.00 which is still higher than you are quoting on the internet. Why?"

Response -

Thank you for contacting Public Storage Customer Service regarding your rent rate.

New customer’s rates are promotional rates that are for new customers only. These rates fluctuate throughout the year. Rates for existing customers are in most cases different from these promotional rates.

After careful review of your account, it was determined that we are unable to adjust your rate. Please consult with your local property manager to help you re-examine your storage needs and see if they can find you a different unit at a rate that works for you.

Sincerely,

Ruth E.
