For two years, I was young and foolish enough to accept the first cc offer made to me. I had always been told to guard my ssn, so I really didn't consider trying another bank after being approved by PROVIDIAN. Knowing that I had made poor credit choices in my teenage years, I had allowed the rep. to convince me that Providian was what I needed to build my credit.

I had an APR of 23.99% and an annual fee of $89. Within the first year I remained uneducated about my creditworthiness. However, during this last year (unfortunately, after my second, non-refundable annual fee had been charged to my account) I started to care.

I had learned that the constant calls of solicitation was a form of harassment; I was given the run-around about a $70-$90 charge for a Plan that I know I refused. First, I was told that the rep. indicated I accepted, but they had no recorded proof. Then, I was given a long distance number to call some company for a cancellation number to callback and provide to Providian in order for them to spend about two months removing the charge. Also, they couldn't repay the interest, because according to them I accepted the charge; and, Lastly I found it hard to believe that they were unable to renegotiate my terms after having the card for a year.

As of this month, my account is closed per my request. I can now look in my wallet without feeling like someone's fool.
