Poetry.com RIP-OFF SCAM Awards NOT given Internet
I submited to Poetry.com about a year ago and placed Second. However, you do not recieve your award, unless you pay this outragous fee to go to florida- IE you purchase your own award. And if you don't pay for the trip your poetry is NOT read outloud at the conference.
So bascially even if you do "win" you have to pay for your awards and the whole convention is only for people who pay to go. Its like a gathering of people who paid money so entertain them for a bit and send them home. It is such a Total Ripoff.

How to Avoid Poetry.com Scam
#2Consumer Suggestion
Thu, February 20, 2003
First of all, Poetry.com is, in fact, a rip-off. If you have fallen victim to their "poetry contest", do not further victimize yourself when they send you mailings via US Postal service.
1. If you want to become a book/novel author, you must have a literary agent-publishers will not even give your work a glance unless it is received by your agent. Exemptions to this rule are magazine articles and such-as freelance writers.
2. If you win an award, receiving it should not depend on whether or not you paid for your award.
3. Being a published author means that YOU get paid-not you paying them.
