I took my 1978 club wagon van in for a brake job. They did the brake job and told me I needed a new master cylinder because it was damaged. I agreed and they placed new drums on the back, re-surfaced the rotors on the front and replaced the master cylinder.

After driving the van off the lot, I smelled and saw smoke coming from the front end. I took the van back to firestone and they said my calipers were gummed up and the pistons were pitted.

To make a long story short, I reviewed all the maintenance records kept by the previous owner from 1978 to present. The master cylinder had just been replaced 1 1/2 years prior and the brake systems had been checked extensively with no significant findings.

I called firestone's corporate office and challenged the work performed. I was transferred to the district office (store managers boss) and identified all the work done which shouldn't have been.

In the end, I had my van fixed, a rental car (2004 nissan) and $521.00 refunded to me. Just goes to show one thing... Keep those records in a centralized location and use them to challenge the work done to your vehicle!!!!
