What a bait-and-switch.  I had a hard drive that was no longer recognizable by the system, no crash noises, most likely a controller problem.  I talked to them and they said that they would evaluate for FREE, and if my diagnosis was correct, a simple problem like that would most likely cost $250-350.  I sent the drive out on Feb. 19.  After receiving the drive, they reported the "good" news--my data could be recovered.  The bad news--a quote of $1885.  I requested on Feb. 26 that the media be returned to me, as the cost was more than I was willing to pay.  On March 10, Data Recovery contacted me again to give me a revised quote of $1200.  Again, I requested that my drive be returned to me.  On March 22, Data Recovery again contacted me and asked if 'I had made a decision to proceed'.  I again told them no, and ask that the data be returned immediately.  So, on March 23, they reduced the quote to $800 (note, over $1000 less than the original price).  Certainly not wanting to proceed with these rip-off artists, I again asked that my media be returned.  On March 31, Data Recovery asked for a credit card to cover the $25 return shipping charge, which I gave them.  On April 12, I called to find out where my drive was.  They told me a BS story that my credit card had been refused and that they had informed me of this.  A pure LIE.  I gave them the same credit card and asked that the drive be shipped immediately.  I FINALLY received my drive on April 16.
