I did everything that was asked of me by Allianz Global Assistance. This should have been shut and closed case. My trip was planned for Oct. 5-22. My Travel guest whom I purchased her and my tickets along with the $200 for the insurance, for it was a birthday gift to her. Unfortunately she was arrested 2 weeks before our departure her first court appearance fell on the date we were to fly out. She was required to attend court several times throughout the month. I immediately submitted the documentation to Cheaptickets and they forward the documents to Allianz.

After a couple of weeks I contacted them and they claim they did not received the documents. That should have been a signal to me then that they had no intentions of honoring my claim. I have called and left messages. I am still awaiting a response from them. They make it very convoluted in resolving your issue. They might as well took a gun and rob me.

- Are you sure that isn't what your Girlfriend did?

In all seriousness though, Travel Insurance will provide coverage for specific reasons. But it also will only provide coverage for events that would be considered unforeseen and avoidable.  So what was the reason they denied the claim?  Was it because of the court appearance?

If so, court appearances are generally covered, however the reason of the court appearance also matters. For example if you booked a trip knowing you had Jury Duty on that same date, insurance wouldn't cover that. But if you booked the trip a year before you got called for Jury Duty it would be. So it could be seen that your Girlfriend put herself into a situation that was avoidable or known when the trip was booked.

You didn't say what she has been charged with, but having several court appearances in a month suggests this is probably something more than your typical Minor Misdemeanor charge.

Good Luck..
