The new and improved Net Detective pretty useless

#2Consumer Suggestion

Wed, January 12, 2005

1. In order to cancel service, a telephone call will work (I hope) for basic Net Detective. A somewhat lengthily letter must be printed and mailed in to cancel Net Detective Plus. (Not to easy) 2. Net Detective fails to let you know which states are not even selectable to inquire from. 3. I found the service provided pretty useless. Would like to know of a service that would perform as well as Net Detective leads folks to believe.

I think if you feel we who have given our honest opinion of the subject company are 'bogus' opinions, then by all means, give your business to them. You have that right and I for one, sure don't mind if you give them your money. I did not give my opinion to the BBB for personal reasons so they don't know about my bad experience with the company. Possibly the others did not report it either as well as many who had a bad experience did not report theirs here. And since the company has changed hands as reported by Craig from Intrigue Learning Service, then I think the company does indeed deserve another chance. However I have since purchased the services from another company and have no need for two pay-for Search services. So please don't jump to your conclusions about who or what kind of people we are by calling our experiences 'bogus'. Not a 'neighborly' thing to do. Have a pleasant day and good luck to you and Intrigue Learning Service.

Consumers Reports on Web Detective ..on this report, some of the previous remarks look a little bogus.

#6Consumer Comment

Tue, December 07, 2004

I am interested in using Web Dectective and came here from a Google search seeking information to help me decide if Web Dectective might be good or bad for the money. I have not yet tried their service so I cannot give a report, pro or con, on the company. I do want to correct a comment about the BBB rating for this company. I went online to BBB and located a report for the company by searching on their URL. The report is located at: http://worf.usshurdman.com/~calgary/commonreport.html?compid=38915 It says: Based on BBB files, this company has a satisfactory record with the Bureau. To have a satisfactory record with the Bureau, a company must be in business for at least 12 months, properly and promptly address matters referred to it by the Bureau, and be free from an unusual volume or pattern of complaints and law enforcement action involving its marketplace conduct. In addition, the Bureau must have a clear understanding of the company's business and no concerns about its industry. Any complaints processed by the Bureau in its three-year reporting period have been responded to by the company. The number and type of complaints are not unusual for a company in this industry. So, at least on this report, some of the previous remarks look a little bogus.

I have been considering buying the web detective services and am doubting them now that I have seen these reports. You want to impress? If your service is all that, offer a free trial period. And I mean totally free - no contracts nothing to sign - nothing Well see them Big A

Hi there, My name is Craig and I am the Director of Business Development with Intrigue Learning Inc. In the summer of 2004 we acquired the Web Detective Program from Phil Mason. Our mission has been to create the most user-friendly, well-organized and highly relevant Investigative Help Service on the Net. We saw great potential in this product which is why we acquired it, but we did recognize that much work would be necessary to ensure that it remained the top investigative service on the NET. Over the past two months, we have been re-designing the landing page, members pages as well as setting up password protection for the site. In approximately two weeks, we will be launching a brand new members page with a well-organized menu of categories that will direct the user to our comprehensive and updated databases of investigative links. We have removed all deadlinks as well as clearly marked the FREE sites from the Fee-based sites. First and foremost, we want to provide our customers with the top FREE investigative resources, but we feel the service would be incomplete if we did not include some of the better cost-effective investigative sites out there. In addition, we have included two free bonus reports on how to protect yourself from Identity Theft and Online Scams with the purchase of every Web Detective. Finally, our online company prides itself on providing high quality customer service and we have a dedicated team of customer service professionals who will be responding promptly to any customer inquiries. Thank-you, Best regards, Director of Business Development Intrigue Learning Services

Web Detective new ownership

#10UPDATE Employee

Wed, October 13, 2004

Phil Mason is no longer the owner of Web Detective. The new owner is Intrigue Learning Services Corp. They have begun making vast improvements to the members pages and the customer service is very good. Mr. Mason ran Web Detective by himself and most likely stretched himself very thin. Web Detective now has many employees to help with various areas of the development of Web Detective. The name is still the same, but the company is much different now. Please give us another chance. If you are not satisfied, it is very easy to get a refund & the staff at Intrigue Learning will be happy to help you with any problems that you encounter.

Here's what I found out about them after I was taken in

#11Consumer Suggestion

Mon, May 17, 2004

I was also taken in by them. They wouldn't provide me any company information, phone # etc when I requested it, so I did a little detective work (see below & Better Business report at the end). Company Info Copyright 1995-2003 web-detective.com, Principal Company Management Yang Wang, [email protected] (Phillip Mason) Mailing Address: Internet Services Company PO Box 430559 Big Pine Key, FL 33043 Ph# 305-872-1415 I agree with you Nancy. I was also taken in by their deceptive claims and felt ripped off. Regarding language, please read what Phil wrote to me below. (PM) Phil([email protected]) at Web Detectives used the following words in recent emails to me (see below). I requested a refund and he responded with 1-word in capital letters (NO!!). Only after a string of offensive emails, I received an email from him with refund instructions. FYI - I submitted a complaint about them to the National Fraud Information Center (for deceptive advertising). Offensive words written to me by (PM) Phil([email protected]) at Web Detectives: "Withdraw your d**n complaint" "We do not appreciate this a d**n bit" "We will take action against YOU" "READ-DUH!!" "Don't be so stupid" "Foolish" "...an appology. IMMEDIATELY LADY" This is what is on file for them at the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU dated 5-17-04 (Go to: www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org) Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaints.

Mr. Mason you are not a 'professional' company owner

First, the comment above the: 'Rebuttal Consumer Comment Submitted: 1/16/2004 8:14:21 PM Modified: 1/17/2004 7:38:35 AM' is NOT from me but from a previous dissatisifed customer. That's why MY comment is directly below the date as to when I submitted my comment. So now if you will recheck your records, I am sure you will find I did send in a dispute to my credit card company. I was not the one who quoted any dollar amount. If you have a problem with the way the web page is done, please contact Rip-off Report.com for confusing you. Second, I think you need to watch your language and next, take a typing or spelling lesson. So you see, Mr. Mason, I am NOT a liar nor am I full of 'crap'. A short letter of apology would be nice but by reading your rebuttal it is easily noted you are not a 'professional' company owner. Thank you for your attention.

Web Detective is a fine, honest company

#13REBUTTAL Owner of company

Thu, May 13, 2004

This person is way out of line. It sounds like they did not even read our homepage material before ordering our website of investigative resources and proceedures. We have taken great pains on our website to VERY UPFRONT with you about EXACTLY what it is we have to offer. Please review our homepage to see EXACTLY what we are offering at http://www.web-detective.com We have been running an honest, forthright company there for almost 10 years. On our website on the main page and in big print (and some in bright yellow highlighting so there will be no mistake) it plainly says: "We are in the business of helping you find links to ALL PERTINENT INVESTIGATIVE RESOURCES. We are the VERY BEST investigative help service on the internet - PERIOD! The goal of our service is to provide you with links to all the best internet investigation sites and databases -both free and fee-based. The value of this part of our service is in having all these thousands of resources updated and organized into one place, thus saving you from having to search all over the internet for them. This IS WHAT WE DO and this IS WHAT OUR service IS ALL ABOUT. This is exactly what we deliver in our members area, nothing more and nothing less! Just the BEST INVESTIGATIVE LINKS ANYWHERE!!" That plainly means we are a LINKS service and we link to other internet sites. We plainly say some are free and others are fee-based. We DO have both. We say this in several places and in our FAQ (in big print) so there will be no mistake. We have even highlighted some of this in yellow to try and make certain you will read it. This is EXACTLY what we say we deliver on our website of investigative resources and proceedures. And it is EXACTLY what we deliver. SOME OF WHAT WE ARE ABOUT: Lots of folks seem to think that Web Detective is just a simple links service. Not so! We are way more than some service that charges you for links that in turn charge you again. Not all links are fee-based as we have tons of links that go directly to free databases. The REAL VALUE of our service beyond the links is that we know which ones are the best! You can spend a lot of money and waste a lot of time chasing down investigative resources and databases that are not rip-offs. With our service you are already assured that you'll only be dealing with reputable companies. We have been weeding these out for 10 years and know who the good companies are. In addition, we provide how-to help and investigative tips that are almost impossible to find on any other service. Also, we keep our resources updated and look into all the latest resources to see what we can add - both free and fee-based. Anyone can look up many resources in Google, or another search engine, but knowing which ones are truly valuable and which ones are rip-offs is where Web Detective is VERY VALUABLE for amateurs and professionals alike. If anyone orders and is not totally satisfied we offer a money back satisfaction guarantee that we have a long and honorable record of ALWAYS producing with NO PROBLEM. Nancy from billings is full of crap about her comments and also totally lying about her credit card problems. THEY ABSOLUTELY did not emanate from us and she has no riight or grounds to insinuate that we are involved in that. It is just totally absurd. Also, I have no clue if she even has any idea what product we offer. We have no product called Web Detective 4.5 Phil Mason WSeb Detective Owner and proud of it.

Web Detective snares you into buying their 'services' by stating they are the best investigative help service on the internet.

#14Consumer Comment

Sat, January 17, 2004

Once you buy in, then they tell you: "WHERE IS THE FREE STUFF???? As our homepage material says: "We are the VERY BEST investigative help service on the internet - PERIOD! The goal of our service is to provide you with links to all the best internet investigation sites and databases - both free and fee-based." Links is what we are all about and links is what we deliver! Most members want to know where all the FREE SEARCHES CAN BE FOUND To begin with, many can be found on the FORMS PAGE. Also, scattered throughout the varioius pages you'll find many free searches and databases available. Another huge resource for free searches is FOUND HERE (Click Here). This site at Search Systems is loaded with many free resources." I could find my own free searches without their help as well as links that cost money. So they are basically doing nothing except giving you a list of links. Big Deal! I have put in a dispute with my credit card company to stop payment. They're presently investigating.
