Volkswagen of America has a real prolem with customer service. After more than twenty attempts to get a response from the manufacturer about a high engine oil consumption condition in a new car with less than twenty thousand miles it is apparent the quality control is very poor.

More important is the way the case was handled. It was passed from service rep to service rep because none of them would acknowledge the issue. Working with the dealer was useless since the vehicle was under warranty. They kept saying there was nothing wrong. Other VW owners have told me about there low engine condition and how they get told there is no problem. Until the car is out of warranty. Then it is "a major repair that needs alot of work". When I asked VW for something in writing about the condition they said the condition was a result of the break in period. AT 20000 MILES THE BREAK IN PERIOD IS OVER. The car should not be consuming so much oil.

This is not the only rip off. If you're told the car was made in Germany, or the parts are german made, they are lying to you. Ask for everything in writing and you'll see how fast the truth really comes out. Most of the cars are manufactured in Puebla, Mexico. The factory where there is constant labor negotiation problems and frequent strikes. The quality control is very poor. Just be warned. Once the warranty is up it is your problem. If you even have a small concern don't think it will be OK. Get everything in writing and keep a good eye on the vehicles performance.
