My name is Judy Morris, M.D. I have spent the last three years of my life investigating UNUM and UNUMProvident Insurance Company. The full story is documented at the following website in the form of the Racketeering Lawsuit I filed against them.

http://graham.main.nc.us/~bhammel/INS/judydoc.html

Like many insurance companies, UNUMProvident sells insurance policies they have no intention of honoring. This company oversold high priced own occupation products to businesses and individuals in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

When the claims started coming in, UNUM and Provident separately initiated fraudulent, harassing and criminal claims tactics in order to coerce, scare and intimidate claimants into dropping their claims, resulting in increased profits to the company. In cases where the claimants persisted, such as myself, they have tied me up in expensive contentious litigation for years.

In 1990 UNUM and Provident merged to form one company. The merger was overseen by the Maine Insurance Commissioner Alessandro Iuppa.

The Massachusetts Insurance Commission and the Maine Insurance Commissioner are in collusion with insurers. I have pretty compelling evidence of this on paper. They are participating and protecting unethical insurers in what amounts to a massive cover-up.

UNUM and Provident have managed to buy out, take over, or handle claims for about a dozen other Long Term Disability Companies that were honoring their claims fairly. (i.e. Paul Revere, Colonial Life, Commercial Life, USAA, Indianapolis Life, National Life of Vermont, possibly New York Life, and others)

The first thing they do when they take over is to follow their policy of "terminate and litigate." Like the Firestone Tire debacle, most of the lawsuits are settled with gag orders

so that the victims can't come forward to testify in other lawsuits.

UNUMProvident's behavior fits the definition of Racketeering under the 1990 Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

They have built themselves a criminal empire, and still they are selling long term disability policies to unsuspecting indivuduals and small and large businesses.

Although they appear to be paying claims for amputated limbs, blindness and deafness, they refuse to honor, in good faith, claims from people who are nonetheless disabled by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Chronic Pain Syndromes and other disorders which are NOT excluded in their policies.

I am available to anyone who wishes more information. I have a newletter documenting my findings and keeping folks abreast of developments in our legal battle against this ruthless company. (The SUIT Newsletter - Stop Unethical Insurance Tactics)

Judy M, M.D.
