I purchased an RCA 32" TV model # 32v550t in 2006 from BEST Buys and I did not get an extended warrenty due to RCA has been in our family since the 60's and lasted 8- 10 yrs. So the tv went out Nov 2008, popping noise then smoke then nothing. Tried reset as instructed in manual and it did not work TV goes on and off with clicking noise less then a min.

I emailed RCA and and email was sent back to me to contact Thompson Inc they can better serve me. I was like what..never knew they purchased RCA and GE. So I called them and it may have went oversea or it could have been here in the U.S. but the young lady that answered was very polite..gave her my issue. She came back said that I can take it to authorized dealer for repair or in home but I have to pay for it..since factory warranty is gone.

I asked to speak to supervisor..because I will pay something since I watched the tv for three years but I am not paying the whole thing for something I purchased that should last longer then 3 yrs. Talk to supervisor and I was telling him what is going on...He cut me off stated my rep troubleshooted with me. what do I want..(thinking) I stated to she stated I would have to pay for my tv repair..and I feel I have been an loyal RCA customer and my family before me that I can see me paying for some not all..he stated factory warranty 90 days labor and a year on parts. I stated I am sorry RCA should stand behind their product better then this..I have never had an issue until now..if it went 5 yrs I would have said ok..I bite.but to pay 1000.00 for a tv that only last three years is unacceptable. He stated they do not last forever.

I told him I am sorry you feel that way because a product of this magnitude should last more then three years. This is 2009 and it has not reached the purchase date. I asked to speak to someone above him who can make a better decisions and more respectful to the customer. He stated there is no one there above him and I asked for phone number to corp office..he stated he do not have that and gave me an address in Marietta, Georgia and since I live in Georgia I thought ok I am local shouldn't be a problem talking to them.

Well it is..no listing for local number and the address is a p.o.box and one number found is no longer operable. All numbers lead back to automated voice prompt. I have never dealt with a company that give a brush off and the supervisor do not know his corp office contact info and for a Monday 3/2/09 at 11:30am that there is no one above him there.

I have researched this product and see it has had some problems for this model and that others have and problems with the customer service far as taking ownership.

Yes I am aware of the warranty that came with the TV, but no one spends 1000 dollars and ready to spend money again in a couple of years. Like buying a house, car, washing machine. you expect some longevity out of it before you start having problems.

I am writing this for those others to be aware of what this company is projecting buy not take some part ownership in the matter. Also the sarcastic customer service presented from a supervisors..and I was not Irate or loud or cursing or anything not even when I got off the phone.

I will never purchase another RCA product again nor will my family under me and I will pass this information on to my friends and so forth. This is ridiculous. Thompson INC is not who RCA use to be. They need to be out of business.

Remind me of when IBM sold to Lenovo no one wanted to take ownership of a problem causing the consumer to be in the middle (dissatisfied).

It appear that the above number is called and routed to the Philippians. And they still give out the p.o. box for corp office Marietta Georgia. No direct number for Corp office..all is a dead in..keep going in circles.

You knew what the warranty was when you purchased the TV. You specifically chose not to buy an extended warranty. Now you want them to pitch in for a repair well beyond the standard warranty period. There is no ripoff here. It is very rare that a company will honor a warranty over a year after it has run out. If they wanted to cover it longer, the warranty period would be longer. You'd have the same problem if your Sony, Hitachi or Samsung TV broke beyond the warranty period. This is not a problem with Thomson, it's a problem with your unreasonable expectations. I would suggest that if you need warranty coverage beyond the standard warranty, that you pony up for the extended warranty like everyone else does.
