I hope the FBI reads this. It may not be a bomb, but it is domestic terrorism and they need to be stopped. This contains objective information which they need. Read on. As you review this remember that the minimum Stores Online sale is in the thousands of dollars. You get the sales pitch in an all day seminar where you are provided with a notebook which includes preliminary information regarding the software, support and services they are offering for sale. A purchaser does not have access to the purchased package until they are walking out the door after the seminar. T hey can only base the purchase on the belief that the information the company provided was reliable and truthful. Although you dont know it until afterwards, your payment is made well before the product is delivered; they do not give you the licensing package and software until after the seminar is over. Theoretically it includes the items noted in the Stores Online Active Merchant Receipt. Only after you get it home and start working with the website and CD-Rom do you find out you have been duped. The day we attended, there were in excess of a 100 people and a large percentage was waiting in line to pick up their package after it was over. When I attempted to activate the first of 6 passwords so I could look at the inside of the store-front that had been demonstrated in the seminar, I was locked out for 4 days until one of your telephone staffers pre-published it, to use her term. Since then, I can login only some of the time, but I still cannot gain access to the initial interview form which is suppose to allow basic changes, (i.e. name, address, etc.) In the instructions, its referenced on page 19 as the bones of your online storefront. Subsequently, I attempted to explore the various advertised support sites within the pre-published store-front activated by their staffer. When I attempt to print Printable Tutorials, one of your much touted support features, it not only doesnt print, it locks up my computer. Understand that my equipment is a new from-the-factory Dell computer with Windows XP with Earthlink as my ISP. In the pre-purchase documentation it stated that it was fully compatible with the operating system I own. Up until this, you could ask the question, is it fraud or is it just a sloppy business? Read on and decide for yourself ...To quote the StoresOnline Active Merchant Receipt, Complete Store Building Packet (Includes StoresOnline CD_ROM with links, helps, tips and tutorialsallows me to create my storefronts). When I put the CD in the drive, it will boot and give an approximate one minute advertisement in the Overview. But, when you attempt to continue to Other Resources and Build Store Now, there is no response---absolutely nothing happens. Since that time a staffer told me to forget the cd; it is only suppose to be a browser launcher anyway. What! A BROWSER LAUNCHER? That is not what I paid $5,199 for! Refer again to the Stores Online Active Merchant Receipt. This is the receipt provided when you pay for the software and services, but prior to them providing you with the product. In the eighth line, the receipt states, I also understand with all of this information and materials listed below, I now have the option to immediately create Web sites with the software provided below, without any further assistance or even the knowledge of Stores Online, Inc. And, as noted, the receipt goes on to list the Stores Online CD-ROM in the description of Materials and Services in the lower part of the receipt. Only after you take it home do you find out that the software doesnt existits all a scam to get your money and get you out the door! If there is any proprietary Stores Online information, I was unable to access it. A large percentage of the package was photocopies of NETmarketing, Popular Mechanics, BusinessWeek, ComputerLife, and various other non-StoresOnline entities. Do you suppose Stores Online obtained permission to copy and resell the articles? In both the introductory and final seminar it was stated that StoresOnline is a publicly traded company, home-quartered in Utah. However, a search of the Utah SCC did not identify any legal corporation doing business as StoresOnline, StoresOnline Incorporated or StoresOnline, Inc. or StoresOnline.com, all of which are used in the literature and agreements. Possibly it is not a Utah corporation. Or, possibly the true legal name is some undisclosed corporation dba StoresOnline, Inc or Incorporated or StoresOnline.com, LTD. As with the other victims, I have made many attempts to work with their technical staffers via the internet and phone. Most of which have been documented. I will make them available to law enforcement officials along with the product since Stores Online since has not made any effort to repurchase them. These are masters of delay and its not our problem. I attempted to return the packages to Mr. Poelman, president of Stores Online. Needless to say, it was refused. Neither has he or anyone else from Stores Online contacted me regarding my written demand for a refund. Kathy Virginia beach, Virginia

Thank you for the head's up on the hassles, bad services, and delays

I just attended in Oakland and was so impressed I started marketing myself as an Internet Marketing Expert in anticipation of next weeks follow up seminar and close. I paid $90 for the 5 star resort pachage they promoted and $30 processing fee for next week. I gave them a credit card imprint and signed it for the amounts above. I hope the travel website mentioned is for real. I have tickets to next week and I want to check it out. 8 hours of one on one help still sounds good for $30. But I will not buy anything more. Thank you for the head's up on the hassles, bad services, and delays. I am not in business to throw away money and time.

I rebutted in favor of Storesonline a year ago. I now am in full agreement with most of the respondents. This company is definately a rip-off. I also feel the storefront choices were mickey mouse. I spent quite a bit of time designing my own and was told I could not use it. I said ok, pick one. After spending nearly nine months trying to get this thing together; I find they now want more money for "database programming". My website was service oriented. The literature said I could build virtually any type of site; no stipulation about needing more money. The programmer dicked me around for 3 months pretending he didn't quite understand what I wanted. I had to lay it out for him in minute detail. $6500 was what he comes back with! Find your financing elsewhere, they want their money NOW! I paid Fair Financial for about a year. I felt bad, they are not Storesonline. I just recieved a new payment booklet with both their names on it. That's it for me. I refuse to pay anymore. I also got roped into the PMI thing. I thought the "success team" was to help me accelerate the processing for what I lacked in website aptitude. Alas, it turned out to be marketing. There was one nice guy there that campained in my behalf and got me back $2000. All total, I'm out nearly $8000. I haven't made a payment in about 3 months. I'm awaiting to see what agressive action they'll take. Maybe if we ban together here and try to get a class action lawsuit going, we can get this filth thrown out on their kesters. Anyone game???

URL to a site Shops Online claims is successful

Thank you all for your sharing your experiences. I attended the first free seminar and signed up for the one-day workshop. I decided to do some research before attending the workshop, and am I glad I did. I might still go just to hand out flyers as someone suggested elsewhere in the Rip Off Report. But here is a clue. At the seminar, the "instructor" showed many screen shots of successful sites, and I happened to note one URL: www.smartsharevacations.com. Today I visited it and looked at the HTML source. After tons of meta tags, there was the generator: FrontPage 5.0. Now it's true the proprietor might still be using hosting from ShopsOnline, or might have learned about meta tag / search engine magic from them, but he is definitely NOT using their software to build his site. I also wanted to see if the editors here will xxx out the reference to smart share vacations. Someone else might want to follow up. I think I've spent enough time on this. Thanks again and good luck seeking restitution.

Alex's rebuttals in favor of StoresOnline are also bogus

#9Consumer Comment

Wow, StoresOnline must be concerned about the information on this forum , since theyre attempting to use (lame) shills in a weak attempt to counter the information. The latest is Alex from Sacramento who posted in this thread and the previous thread as well. Comparing Alexs statements between his two rebuttals in both threads in favor of StoresOnline reveal how theyre bogus postings. In this thread, Alex states: I myself have never logged onto storesonline website editing program. However, in the previous thread, Alex stated, I found their storebuilding program very easy to use Likewise, in this thread, Alex stated, I filled out the papers that were given to me at the workshop, mailed them into storesonline, and they are building the site for me However, in the previous thread, Alex stated, I attended the storesonline seminar a little over a year ago and have been nothing but pleased with the results of the sites I have put up. In the first statement, StoresOnline is currently building the sites; in the second statement, StoresOnline has already built the sites that are already up. So, Ill make whats becoming a standard rebuttal to the StoresOnline shills who are attempting to neutralize the truth that has been posted here what is your web site addresses? Since you are nothing but please with the results of the sites I have put up what is the URL to these sites? Im sure everyone following these threads would very much like to see any example of a successful StoresOnline site. StoresOnline dont give up your day job! Youre crappy at your postings to this site!

99% computer illiterate ..no "false advertising" at the workshops

It has been interesting reading these reports. I myself have never logged onto storesonline website editing program. I am not sure if it was a special offer at the workshop that I attended only, but they offered free programming for those who do not know much about computers. I filled out the papers that were given to me at the workshop, mailed them into storesonline, and they are building the site for me. All I have to do is log onto the internet, preview the site, and let them know of any changes that I would like. I find this program very acceptable and feel that there was no "false advertising" at the workshops.

To all.. Any of these types of business opps are scams. I don't care what anyone says.. I have been duped before.. and to all who want to put up their own store.. do a little research. You can create a website with as little as $1000. to start your own website. Here is the cost for the one I did... Frontpage - $99.00 Frontpage ecommerce web template - $150.00 at http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/ Web site hosting - $145.00/yr at http://www.oneworldhosting.com Merchant Account - $249./one time /19.99/mo (Verisign).. Go figure...

Defenses of StoresOnline in this thread are bogus

#12Consumer Suggestion

Wed, September 17, 2003

Both of Colleen and Lacy's defenses of StoresOnline are shallow, and suspiciously like company shills masquerading as their customers. I could debate many of their points: Ill stick to three. First, both of them state what a good deal StoresOnline is, 3 web sites designed and hosted for around $5000. Actually, this is not a good deal. A web site can be hosted on a commercial server for about $100/year (i.e, see http://www.100best-web-site-and-domain-hosting-services.com) A shopping cart likewise has about the same cost. Finally, theres a wealth of free lancers available to compose moderate web sites, at a cost around $500 per site for about 15 pages and 40 pictures. Theres plenty of commercial firms with costs just slightly more. If you paid $5000 for 3 sites, then you paid too much. Second, both Colleen and Lacy do not provide their web site addresses, so that we at least have the opportunity to examine their web sites, debate them, and learn from them. This is consistent with StoresOnlines behavior. For instance, at their promo site, http://www.iregnow.com/, the title page contains three glorious testimonials. However, only one of them is backed up by an example, http://www.wheatgrasskits.com. (BTW, this company itself is located miles away from StoresOnlines headquarters in Orem, Utah, which by itself raises a factor of suspicion. What do you suppose are the odds of this are?) Finally, neither Colleen nor Lacys posts refute the substance of the claims in the original complaints (because they cant!) Instead, like every shill posting, they just exclaim that youre not working hard enough, and what did you really expect anyway? This is acting to divert your attention away from the main points. For the consumer complaints of very poor and rude customer service, strings of broken promises, web sites that are never up, and so on, the shills are silent when countering the specifics of their customers true experiences. So, to the StoresOnline personal who will undoubtedly read this message, you still have your work cut out for you!

StoresOnline "Workshop" clearly states NO computer savvy needed

#13Consumer Comment

Wed, September 17, 2003

I just attended a StoresOnline Workshop... They very clearly stated that to build your website and make $$, you need not be computer literate. They even state that if you have NO computer knowledge you can feel comfortable purchasing this because they do the work. The speakers testify that they started on slow "dial-up"s with minimal computer knowledge. So these Rebuttals don't seem to face the real issue at hand.... Fasle advertising to people looking for a way to break into the internet e-commerce without internet or computer savvy. Let's not rebutt with excuses of the ignorance of those trying to use the tools.... because as stated in the "workshop" these tools are suppose to be geared for the "ignorant" to use as easily as those of us with any computer/ internet knowledge.

We have also purchased three storesonline web sites. I have never had a problem loging on to their website. I have never had a problem printing their tutorials. As with any program YOU HAVE TO READ ALL OF THE DIRECTIONS. I have always had prompt customer service when I needed it. These people who are having all of these problems are just not doing their part. You have to do some work and have to know what you are doing. As far as the alleged printing problems...it is probably their connection and/or software. XP is about the poorest software that windows ever came out with. It should have never left the drawing board. Anyone who has XP is dealing with a bunch of bugs that they don't even know about. You should upgrade your systems to Windows 2000 professional. Also, I had a hard time downloading and printing from the internet until I got a Cable modem.....they are wonderful!! The difference between a cable modem and a regular phone line is the difference between the Mississippi river and your bathroom faucet. Storesonline offers a heck of a deal....4,000 is not a lot to pay for 3 web sites with ecommerce and all of the other little additives. Just check around. Most people pay about 2500 for just one website.

This is in response to Colleen's response. I too have purchased sites from storesonline and have experienced many difficulties with the whole process, much like those in the many complaints. It is very upsetting to see so many complaints and I am hoping I have not been taken. In an effort to ease my mind would you mind sharing your storesonline website address so I can see an example of a site that has actually been posted using the software?

About the CD-Rom package; your right. It's not usuable. I found the best way to "build your store" is on their site. They offer a "Build your storefront"; which is extrememly usuable for those with a basic store: buy, shopping cart, check-out approach. For my website, it was more complicated. I used my MS Word program to design what was lacking; and between the two the programmer at Storesonline was most gracious in designing the rest. What it takes is a little effort here. You guys are blowing a lot of hot air. What, you think Storesonline is gonna do all the work for $5000? Have you researched the rest of the website programming companies to find out what they are charging for this service? Get a life already. This is really a pretty good deal. The only catch is; you really have to know a little bit about the computer and the internet to make this work.
