This email is a CONSUMER ADVOCATE SUGGESTION to RipOff #4012. It was sent by [email protected] S.T.D. CAR CARE CENTER car repair rip off ..TRYING TO COVER THEIR ASSES(#4012) You didn't mention what type of vehicle you have, but you do bring up a few good points. 1) Always get an estimate in writing. 2) Putting brake fluid into the engine would cost the shop much more, as brake fluid is about 4 times the price of motor oil. 3) Axle boots can last 1 month or the life of the car depending on the environment. It is almost impossible to tell if someone cut them or a tree branch did the damage. It's very easy and convenient to be able to blame our lack of maintenance on the last mechanic who worked on the car. But, this isn't always the case. Perhaps if you had spoken with your mechanic a bit longer, they would have told you that when a water pump goes out, it tends to overheat your engine. When the engine is overheated, the gaskets and seals tend to harden and lose their ability to seal. Oil leaks result. I suggest that you take an automotive course at your local junior college. Being informed in the mechanics shop makes for better understanding of your repairs.
