Last week my son's 1993 Saturn died with only 93,000 miles on it. Of course, it died 100 miles away from home. We had it towed to the Saturn Dealership here in Memphis, Tennessee where the car had been purchased and serviced in the past. The technician told us that it would cost $300 to tear into the engine to find out what was wrong. We agreed to this and a few days later, we were told that a internal bearing blew causing massive damage to the engine. Of course, for a mere few thousand dollars, they could fix it. Our finances, such as they are, could not afford to make such an investment, especially since the work would only be warranted for a year and college tuition was due. We then told the tech to just put the engine back together again and we would have it towed to our house. AT this time, the tech informed us that it would cost us $700 to put the engine back together! I was in a state of shock. I called the national customer service rep and advised them of the situation. They agreed that we should have been told on the front end that the $300 did not cover putting it back together again and said they would use our story for training purposes so it wouldn't happen again. Now that made me feel really good!

So, they put the million pieces to my son's engine in the back seat and trunk of his car and it now sits in my front yard

I have purchased two vehicles from Saturn in the past. However, they have seen the last of my business. And for those of you thinking about purchasing a Saturn, keep this in mind: My son's car received maintenance on a regular basis. It wasn't misused or abused. Since 1994, we have paid this same Saturn dealership "big bucks" for engine repairs. It still "died" with only 94,000 miles on it not because of abuse or neglect but a "faulty" bearing.
