Safeway grocery "Superior Service Program" employees under stress, mistreatment of employees, pressure having to work off the clock
Safeway is the worst possible grocery chain to work for. After quiting a month ago, I found a whole new life. I had no idea how much stress was involved in dealing with the "Superior Service Program", which forces employees to go the extra mile, without the extra time to do it. Managers apply so much pressure that employees routinely work off the clock.
Unless you've worked there, you have no idea how bad it is. It's that Big Brother is watching atmosphere. In fact the store I worked in had cameras constantly filming the employees. The store manager would watch a couple hours of film each morning, choosing the departments at random.
Here's the irony: He would tell you not to talk to customers for such a long period of time, and out of the other corner of his mouth tell you to focus on service. These people are real morons. I could write forever on the subject. Just don't shop Safeway!! If you do, you're condoning mistreatment of employees.

I quit safeway due to harassment, discrimination and total disregard for my IBS, which I will file a rip off report shortly on soon, however, I'm in canada and I can tell you that I was instructed to: Help people out if asked and in uniform even if I already clocked out. Personally I think safeway can go to hell with that policy and I would encourage any employees being made to work for free or off-the-clock to file ministry complaints, complaints here, complaints with the better business bureau. Their corporate level management are not to be trusted, ever, they are more interested in helping themselves than you (at least i my case and most complaints I've seen online about them).
