April 4: A Roto Rooter representative came to our home because our pipes were making a "vibrating" noise. He determined that the PRV wasn't working correctly. Instead of replacing it, he cleaned it. He stated that replacing the PRV would be $550 but that if it had to be replaced later the cost of this first call would be deducted from our total.
Cost of this visit: $275. We had a $75 coupon so we paid him $200.
The pipes began vibrating again only hours later but the next day was Easter Sunday and so, of course, we didn't call.
April 6: we called first thing Monday morning.
April 7: The plumber returned and replaced the PRV. But, he only gave us credit for $100, rather than the $275 we had already paid!
We expected the second charge to be $275 ($550 - $275), for a total of $475. But instead we paid $652.
This is unprofessional and deceitful! We would have replaced the PRV on the first visit if we had known how this would go down. This charge was $177 more than stated by the Roto Rooter rep and we would have contacted other plumbing companies and gotten estimates if we had known what these costs would be.
