Complaint Review: Rockland Nissan - Blavuet NY

Caution: cheating dealership.I found a certified car on Rockland Nissan website. We went there with my wife. We test drove the car and liked it. The car was advertised at $12,000. We agreed we would buy the car. Our salesman was Kenny, who was great. I asked if we could negotiate the price. He said he could only lower the fees and not the car price. I asked what fees. And here it comes: $1,500 car certification fee and $895 dealer preparation fee!

I argued why the car certification fee if car was certified already and why dealer prep fee? So the manager waved the car certification fee. We submitted the paperwork for credit check and went home because they were closing. We asked to come back the next day at 10 am to finish up. We came back and waited 1.5 hours before we were called into the finance office.

A very impolite female person threw the papers at me and said "sign here sign and there”, which were registration documents. I asked for the invoice / final deal before I sign anything. She said I knew what and for how much I was buying. I insisted. She complained that I was wasting her time and printed out the invoice with $14,800 car purchase price plus taxes. I said I agreed to $12,000, she said there were fees added, dealer prep and car certification fee.

I argued because fees were not listed and rolled into the car price for financing. So they took us to another finance person. He said the fees must stay and that we could not get special Nissan financing for certified car because the car was too cheap! What is that? Nissan advertised special financing for certified cars and I had excellent credit! He called the manager Tim O’Keffe, who came in and explained the deal was good because it included extended Allstate warranty and left.

The second finance person printed out a new invoice, and guess what, the price went up by an additional $3,900! He added this warranty cost to the car. I said I did not want it because the car came with certified car warranty and I asked to remove it. He went to the manager and came back and said, "Buy the car with this warranty or the deal is off”. So I went to speak to Tim O’Keffy by myslelf and asked him to remove the warranty. He said, "You don’t like the deal leave without the car.”

So, they tried to force me to buy the Allstate warranty, to pay the certification fee and dealer prep fee! I walked after ½ day there. Dealer cannot charge car certification fees for certified cars on top of already advertised price. And, most don’t charge dealer prep fees as they paid by Nissan for unwrapping new cars only! Do not go there. They will try to take advantage of you. See yelp. See better business bureau website, see ripoff.

There are many complains about Rockland Nissan. I am submitting my complaint to Nissan, the attorney general and Rockland county consumer affairs. It is ridiculous how they cheat! I would have ended up paying $18,000 plus taxes for $12,000 advertised car! Shady business. And FYI: Rockland Nissan runs your credit against 4 banks without asking you. That was another surprise to me. Now it shows 4 credit inquiries on one day. We purchased a certified car somewhere else. No hidden fees, no surprises and a great, quick experience.
