Rent A Center ripoff overpriced harrassing loan sharks dishonest freaky Haltom Texas
Rent a center seems all nice and sweet when you go in there to purchase something of there store. Then you have your payments set up. The prices they give you at first are never right. We started out with a bedroom set and big screen tv. Total was suppose to be 30 for the bedroom and 65 for the tv per week. Total of 95 dollars which was suppose to be tax included. First week free. Well next week with payments due on Saturday. They call you at 9am on the due day. "we would just like to you to know your payment is due and what time you will be in to take care of it." Ok seems innocent enough at first but to do it every freakin week? Also when you go off on them and say "i've been paying this account for a month now I know when it is due" The next time you go in to make your payment Oh it's up from 95 dollars to 102. The next week...hmmm...it's up to 125 for the same s**t you been paying off at 95.
Not only that but when you dont answer your house phone they call your work and your cell as a friendly reminder to come in that day. Ok so you don't make it in that day they are closed on sunday so you plan to go there first thing monday right? Well one of their nutcase "managers" is there sunday night at 10pm on a day they are not only closed but that late at night with a truck BEATING your door. Scaring your children. I'm not talkin they knock a little loud. I'm saying it sounds like they are kicking in your door. They proceed to do this for about 30 minutes. YOu dont answer they leave you a "friendly" reminder your account is 2 days late. Next day They are there at 6am before the store even opens beating your door. You also now know some of their home numbers as they have been calling your house from THEIR home numbers every hour on the hour.
This place is a freakin cult. They are over priced, freaky, stalking, people. This is all the crap I have been dealing with for being 2 freakin days late with a payment. Well they can shove this stuff and come pick it up at MY convience on monday.

I will NEVER shop there again and everyone I know I make sure they know what is going on and they will NEVER shop there. This place is off the deep end and unless your ready to deal with their harrassment I suggest you shop else where. They let you pick your due day, they are cheaper, they have shorter terms, and they do not harrass you till your scared to even leave your house without looking around to make sure you dont see the rent a center truck. I am calling the main office asap in the morning. This company is...to put it plan and simple...NUTS!

the purpose of reminder calls is to establish good payment habits. reminder calls are never to harass or threaten. it is also company policy that if you tell them not to call you untill you are late then they have to obey.

I think everyone should steer clear of RAC they are no better or no worse than any other predatory lending company. They prey on your enability to purchase larger items outright. They jack the prices up and charge the highest interest rate allowable by law. It is no different than going to a loanshark. I would always suggest going to Wal-Mart if possible and put items on lay-away. Some of the furniture stores have lay-away plans available. I think everyone should come together and stop using all these predatory lenders,like title loans,rental cars, etc. Of course they are going to harrass you, they have to get their bonuses and commisions for jacking their prices up, but think about it this way, if there was no market for it they would not be able to survive. THINK ABOUT IT!
