During the week of November 13th badbusinessbureau.com placed several display advertisements in the local East Mesa & Apache Junction News Papers. We received over 120 calls mostly from EX-employees, many existing employees and consumers that said they had known this was going on for more than 15 years. (Betty Carter has been working for this company for over 17 years).

Customers stated, that's why they did not frequent the AJ Pizza Hut any more. "Wer're glad to see someone doing something about Pizza Hut in AJ," many have stated. So many consumers stated they heard the horror stories directly from employees while dining at Pizza Hut.

Many customers said they had heard the owner "Betty" yelling at the employees, that they (the customer), were so embarrassed and felt bad for the employees.

Another customer said she called Pizza Hut Main offices and told them about a tall guy working at the AJ Pizza Hut grabbing a very young workers breasts. She explained that the girl ran out side and started to cry. The family sitting at the table next to them were so outraged, they got up and left Pizza Hut in the middle of their meal.

Another customer said they went into Pizza Hut just for the salad bar, and they were both sick for over a week from food poisoning. These woman were just two friends who met just for a dinner salad. They were so outraged after reading the other Rip-off Reports on Pizza Hut, about how management would not throw away salad bar food after sitting out all day and using food that was outdated.

Customers said there was never any soap, toilet paper or paper towels to wipe your hands in the bathrooms and that the bathrooms were filthy.

One customer called in and stated that she ordered Pizza and spaghetti. They told her that she needed to bring in her own bowl for the spaghetti, that they were out of aluminum pans for the spaghetti. She asked them if there would be a discount. She was told, absolutely not!

About 20 or more Mothers of EX-employees called. Totally outraged about Pizza Hut. Most of the Mothers and or their husbands went down to Pizza Hut to complain about improper touching of their daughters, non payment of wages, shorted hours, and drugs being offered to their children. Many parents were outraged that the AJ Police were called by Betty when they arrived at Pizza Hut to complain. The Police told the parents to leave the premises. The Police did not care that their child was due pay. Sexual harassment and drug use went in one ear and out the other of the police officers.

One employee who was training to be a manager stated that when he would do the inventory sheets, Betty Carter would take the sheets and change the inventory amounts to a higher number. For instance, if there were 6 bags of flower, Betty Carter would change the inventory to say there were 10 bags of flower. When he asked why she had done this, she quipped, "You want to keep your job, shut up and mind your own business."

Employees claimed that Betty would start accusing people of letting Pizzas go out the back door, that there were shortages. Employees were telling her that her son Rick keeps going into the register, taking cash and tearing up delivery slips, never to be rung up on the register. Betty would say, don't you dare lie about my son, threatening their job if they ever said that again.

Aside from all the outrageous activity on all the Rip-off Reports, the most common offense (hardly the worst one) is pay shortages and the fraudulently hiring of waiters and waitresses under the false pretense that they will be working for $2.00 an hour and making very big tips. This was not the case. Yes, they did get the $2.00 per hour, but no tips. When they came to work, they would do every job in Pizza Hut, never collecting a tip because they were not able to wait tables. Employees would be forced to assist some of the waitresses and waiters who would collect the tips. The waiters and waitresses would normally be Betty Carters granddaughter, sister-in-law, ex-sister in-law, boyfriends and other friends of the Carter Cartel.

Unfortunately, most of the victims who have called in and or have written to us do not have access to a computer. All of these victims are good hard working people. Every one of them, many who have less than most, have big hearts and honest souls.

For this reason, more so, the badbusinessbureau.com is determined to help these people get justice.

Letters and e-mails are still coming in. Below is a typical (one of many, hand written signed letter we received from an EX-employee from Pizza Hut Apache Junction. Many EX-employees and existing employees fear retaliation from Pizza Hut and wish to stay anonymous.

EMPLOYEE HAND WRITTEN LETTER DATED 11-17-00

I've seen many cockroaches, and I found a rat in the trash.

I saw People that I worked with use cleaning chemicals, and then handle the food without ever washing their hands.

I saw food that was dropped on the floor picked up and then used. Pizza trays and covers were thrown on the floor, then picked up, NOT WASHED and used again.

Many times after working six hours you still didn't get your break. No one was allowed to have soda, but they wanted us to chip in 7 dollars apiece to get an extra soda box for all employees, which included the owner Betty, who was manager at the time and Mary, an assistant manager. Andrew sat in the dining area and smoked cigarettes and drank soda all the time while us kids are working our butts off.

Andrew became assistant manager was seeing Mary's daughter. At the time he treated me like I didn't know what I was doing. He was constantly giving me a hard time, talking to me like I'm stupid. He made me feel bad. I brought it up to Mary the manager and she considered it sexual harassment and agreed that it wasn't fair that he was picking on me. She brought it up to Betty

the owner, who basically favored Andrew. Betty told me that it wasn't anything to get upset about, Andrew is right and I need to just listen to him and pretty much just shut up. It's not important, that is how they made me feel, like nothing I said mattered. After that, Mary quit. She couldn't handle working there anymore, and neither could I.

I didn't receive my first check until after two weeks, my second check after like a month, and my third check, I just received it, the check was almost five months old!

I worked at pizza hut in show low AZ as an assistant manager for two years then betty carter got her claws into me and i moved to AJ. She over worked me, and treated me like total s**t,then i couldnt afford my rent because pizza hut franchise suck a*s in that department so i had to get a graveyard job at a gas station as my second job. I did that for a while,then i ran out of energy from not sleeping for 3 days at a time. So i bailed and moved back to show low without notice. but i mean betty knew my situation and she still wouldnt even consider letting me have my job back in show low. I ruined my life for her in that move and thats the thanks she is a natzi and i hope she gets what is coming to her

As I am currently a manager with a Pizza Hut in Ohio, I can say from personal experience that this sounds like an utter crock if it is in fact a company store. Franchisees are set for routine evaluations just to be sure that the pizza hut standards are met. However, these inspections are often routine and easily prepared for. In the event that this is a company store or even if it is a franchise store, the numbers for such people such as Mike Miles, the COO, and Brian Martz, the head of HR, are easily attainable. If such actions are being carried out, these people should be contacted IMMEDIATELY!!!

Hold on, ...badbusinessbureau.com cannot take the credit for the closure of the Apache Junction Pizza Hut. This store has been planning to close it's doors for some time now. Pizza Hut will be building a new store just around the corner. According to Pizza Hut employees, Betty Carter was trying to say that this was the fault of the badbusinessbureau.com. Pizza Hut reportedly had the old location leased out to a bar.

It's amazing. You would think Betty Carter would pay everyone if full before closing. Not so. Employees are still owed for hundreds of hours of time, pay check shortages still exist and their are out standing loans given by employees to the Carters that still go unpaid.

About 3 weeks ago Betty Carter reportedly went on a hunt for employees to sign statements that she was a good person and a good manager. Needless to say, we now have statements that Betty tried to bribe and beg for statements, asking employees to lie. According to our sources she might have 1 or 2 statements signed by family & live in friends.
