Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, GAS, MONEY AND TALENT ON THIS 'COMPANY'. !!!SCAM ALERT!!!

****Primerica clone scam*********

On 2/28/03 I went into an interview for, I believed, an Office Administration/Customer Services position. I had grown up in a Insurance Services environment- My father worked for a major insurance company in Santa Ana as Vice President until he retired. I worked a summer job there as a teenager in Claims Files.

Maybe you've heard of it - Fireman's Fund. I know what a real Insurance Company should be about - and this sure ain't one of them!!!!

I had previously seen bad reports of Primerica online, at this site and in the City of Corona's, (where I live) home page. Due to contact with one of their "recruiters" a few weeks ago.

Lordy - if this wasn't just the same thing! better disguised perhaps, but there were several Red flags during the interview:

*****

Pay $200 for some sort of "licence"

52 hour course

Nice, but empty offices

Many references to using several Marketing recources.

Position will actually be in Sales.

Comission based with a undisclosed "salary"

Use your own funds for many things.

Wanted a list of all the people I ever knew.

How much interest I had in earning a 3 digit income, with 50k during the "first year erarnings"

Computerized test that gives results on that level of interest.

******

This sounded just like the Primerica Scam! I even mentioned it during the phone call from the 'recruiter' a week earlier, who assured me that they "do not play games like that". Yeah, Rite....

Website for the offices - http://wwwwww.inlandempire.nyloffices.com/construction.htm

NOT FUNCTIONAL says it is UNDER CONSTRUCTION

the same with the COVINA, FULLERTON, ORANGE COAST, and PASADENA sites.

The recruiter was Steve Nagy

Cell# 909-312-2399

Office- 909-888-1313 x 330

Thanks - and keep your eyes open!!!!!!!

Obviously misunderstanding of the process and requirements...

Perhaps if you had gone further through the process you would have understood better... In response to your misunderstandings. Pay $200 for some sort of 'licence' RESPONSE: This LICENSE is required by the State of California if a person wishes to transact business in the insurance and financial services industry. You can view the requirements here at the California Dept. of Insurance Website: http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0200-industry/0010-producer-online-services/0100-flash/index.cfm 52 hour course RESPONSE: Link to a PDF document from the State of California Department of Insurance indicating the requirements one needs PRIOR to taking the state examination as well as ongoing requirements to maintain your license. 1 )http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0200-industry/0110-whats-new/upload/new_life_agent_license_requirements.pdf Also 2) http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0200-industry/0200-prod-licensing/0400-other-info/0800-questions-answers/lo-ahfaq.cfm Nice, but empty offices RESPONSE: At that time we had just moved into a new office. Only about half the offices in the building were occupied. We currently have about 50 housed agents with approximately 15 open offices that are not occupied. We had first right of refusal on space in the building on some additional space on our floor. The property management company wanted to occupy the entire floor and completed a build out...this resulted in some additional open offices. Many references to using several Marketing recources. RESPONSE: We have many marketing programs depending on the agent, their experience and their initial markets. This includes programs like the Child ID Program - Run periodically by local New York Life Offices. Our last festival for this program was last year in Sept. This included many local businesses in the Hospitality area as well as the San Bernardino Police Department, California Department of Forestry, San Bernardino Fire Department, San Bernardino Stampede Minor League Baseball Team, Ronald McDonalds House, Knotts Foundation for Foster Care, to name a few. (http://www.newyorklife.com/cda/0,,17206,00.html?cmp=OTC-HPArticlesAug2208&att=childsafetyprotection) U-Promise (http://www.upromise.com/what-is-upromise-earn-save-pay-for-college.do?cx=l1&cm_re=gav1-_-L1VisitorNav-_-WhatIsUpromise) Raising Financially Responsible Children (designed by Neale Godfrey. You can look here up here :http://www.childrensfinancialnetwork.com/about.cfm) Position will actually be in Sales. RESPONSE: Many people who join the New York Life Insurance Company have come from backgrounds that are NOT sales or sales related. New York Life has won many awards for the quality of our training program. This includes the State of California recognizing our internal training program as meeting the Continuing Education for Licensing. The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA (http://www.theamericancollege.edu/) recognizing our training program as meeting the requirements for the LUTCF professional designation. The United States Department of Veteran Affairs allowing a person who has the GI Bill available to use that money to go through our training program (we had to complete a rigorous certification program that included detailed examination of our training process) Comission based with a undisclosed 'salary' RESPONSE: There is no "undisclosed 'salary'". The position is a commission driven compensation program. Agents have unlimited earning potential. We put no cap on how much a person can make. If an agent performs at the minimum required levels they should reasonably be able to make between $50,000 and $75,000 in their first year with no background in sales. Our agents are paid for their efforts. People who choose not to work and learn the systems and processes that we teach will have income that reflects their motivation and dedication. Use your own funds for many things. RESPONSE: Agents receive an expense allowance that is designed to reimburse an agent for normal business related expenses. Ultimately this career is similar to opening a franchise without the startup costs. You are in business for yourself...but not by yourself. An agent will have the ability to write-off many of their normal expenses including things like mileage (Check with you tax preparer under the job code for an insurance agent) Wanted a list of all the people I ever knew. RESPONSE: The first people we have our agents work with our people they know. This is because there is an established relationship and some inherent trust. This allows a new agent to: 1) Practice the sales process with someone who will give them genuine feedback 2) Help the people they love and care about first and foremost One of the greatest tragedies I have seen is a new agent joining the company...not talking to their friends and family...and having a family or friend die with no insurance. We have an obligation to share with our family and friends the type of work that we do...ultimately it is up to THEM to decide if what we offer has any value. 3) If you were opening a new business...Restaurant, Law Office, Dr. Office, Clothing Store....you name it...who would be the first people YOU would want to be there? Family, Friends, and Acquaintances. The list of names you compile are for your benefit...not ours. We ask to review the list solely to help identify what your market might be...what type of market programs might be most applicable based on the people you know and the relationships you have. How much interest I had in earning a 3 digit income, with 50k during the 'first year earnings' RESPONSE: Again...I fail to see how this is a bad thing? Would you have been happier had we asked what interest you have making $25K? The average income for an agent with 3 years experience or more in our office is $104,000 per year. The average for an agent with 10 years experience or more is $257,000 per year. If a person doesn't have the drive and motivation to achieve a high income...this may not be the right career for them. A high income is representative of one thing ultimately...the number of people a person has helped. Computerized test that gives results on that level of interest. RESPONSE: Many companies use some sort of testing initially to help evaluate if the investment they are going to make in an individual will be worthwhile. The system we used was designed by John C. Marshall PhD and Bob McHardy CLU. John and Bob own the Self Management Group and have written a number of books. You can see their business at www.self-management.com. Many top executive recruiting, staffing and consulting groups use the systems created by the Self Management Group...including ADT, Phillips, Baxter, Novartis, ING., Met Life, Bell World, Clarica, Cendant, and HSBC to name a few. Hopefully this information from independent source will help you better evaluate the opportunity with New York Life. PS - We are not a multi-level marketing company. You do not sign up people to work under you and your success is not based on how many people you can "hire" underneath you. Wikipedia has a listing of MLM companies...as well as a definition of what Multi-Level Marketing really is...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_multi-level_marketing_companies Finally...you may find out more about our office and company at: www.inlandempire.nyloffices.com And www.newyorklife.com

Scam Alert

#6UPDATE EX-employee responds

Sat, September 23, 2006

New York Life is a Fortune 100 company with billions of dollars in surplus. One of the oldest insurance companies in the world. It is definately not a scam, has the best ratings from AM Best, Moodys, Standard and Poors...etc. Its a hard career but look at the prodcuts. Ask anyone who has had a loved one die and recieved hundreds of thousands in death benefit and see if they feel they were scammed. Research the company and you will see that they are at the top along with Met Life, North Western Mutual and others... Have you ever been to Manhattan or seen an actual photo of Manhattan? The New York Life Building is one of the most recognized icons of NY and Finance in the world. As far as paying your own business expense, it sucks but thats life. You'll have to deduct it during taxes. Its like that for almost all companies and in most fields that are commission based...real estate, financial services, or anyone that wants to run their own business. I'm sorry you had a bad encounter but you'll find that to be the norm of the industry. Good luck in your career path.

I chuckled when I read the complaint in this report. The writer said, "Website for the offices - http://wwwwww.inlandempire.nyloffices.com/construction.htm NOT FUNCTIONAL says it is UNDER CONSTRUCTION." Look at that web address carefully. The last part of the address shows that you are navigating to the "under construction" page of the site. Many commercial sites maintain a page like this, to which readers are diverted if they somehow stumble onto a page that is not yet ready for publication. To view the web address for the San Bernardino, California, office of New York Life, just omit the "construction.htm" suffix, and navigate your web browser to: http://www.inlandempire.nyloffices.com/ You'll find a very helpful and apparently forthright site, of the type published by many legitimate commercial enterprises. ... Parenthetical note: In browsing several areas of rip-offreport.com, I've noticed that many writers seem to be quite emotional, and some employ highly inflammatory language. That's understandable, I suppose, if you've been ripped off, and if you believe that responding in that way will somehow help your situation. Often, the messenger will be attacked, apparently since it's more fun to attack the messenger than to respond to the message. Lest any of you wonder, I don't work for New York Life, don't own a New York Life policy, have never worked for New York Life, and don't have any personal friends that do. I'm just a gal who was amused that an "under construction" web address says it's under construction. ...

I chuckled when I read the complaint in this report. The writer said, "Website for the offices - http://wwwwww.inlandempire.nyloffices.com/construction.htm NOT FUNCTIONAL says it is UNDER CONSTRUCTION." Look at that web address carefully. I work for New York Life and I have been with them for over 5 years. I would just like to say that this is the worst place that I have ever worked in all my years of working. No matter what you do or how hard you work it is never enough. I think I must have the supervisor and director from hell. I don't think the insureds are treated well at all.

I am sorry that someone had a very bad experience with the interview process of this company and had to compare it to Primerica. I would say after working for this company for 1 1/2 years I know how hard the business is and it is not for everyone, and the initial test kind of filters out those people. The initial market when you get in is going to be your family and friends and yes you are going to sell to them because they are going to buy, but you are doing them no wrong by selling them NYL products, because the company is one of the top Life insurance in the US, and there is nothing wrong with having something good.

#11UPDATE EX-employee responds

I am an ex-employee and though NYL has a good reputation... this is how it works.. they hire 100's of agents a year and about 1 is able to stay. Sell all your family and friends, then get out. Oh and make sure they buy life insurance regardless of if it's needed or not because that is the big $ maker.
