Consumers should not accept any "free" cellular telephones from MCI Worldcom, Inc.

This company is probably has the worst accounting system and customer service. Approximately six months ago, Worldcom Cellular called me and asked whether I would be interested in obtaining a free cellular telephone.

I advised them that I had a service at the time with Nextel Communications, and was indeed satisfied with that service.

However, they insisted on sending me the free phones with the understanding that I could return them if I decided that I did not want the service.

At the time I advised them to put the telephones in my wife's name (I did not anticipate what problems that decision would create).

As soon as we received that telephones, we opened one box, and decided that we did not like the Worldcom Cellular plan. We called them immediately and advised them about our dissatisfaction and advised them to send us a return authorization label.

They did,and we returned the telephones. Two weeks later, we called and they advised us that they received the telephones.

They advised us that we owed them nothing since we never activated the service.

Two months later, we started to receive bills from Worldcom Cellular requesting payment for cellular telephone services. We called them, but was never able to get through to their customer service.

Thus, we sent them a letter explaining that we did not owe them anything given that we returned the telephones and more importantly never activated the service.

A month later, they sent another bill with additional charges. Needless to say this infuriated my wife who did nothing to get the bill in her name.

The worldcom Cellular saleperson never spoke to her, but to me. I have tried everything to get them to discontinue their harassing bills.

I have even threatened to file a formal complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC); I will send them a copy of this report.

I will send a detailed letters to the President/CEO, Chairperson of their Board of Directors until I get them to acknowledge the fact that we owe them nothing; as of December 17, 2001, they claim that we owe them $239.39.

Also, we spoke with their Customer Service Department on 12/17/2001 and this time they advised us that they cannot give us a credit of $239.39 because they have no evidence that we ever returned their equipment.

We advised them that confirmation of the return was given two weeks after we used their own return authorization labels to return the telephones.

They stubbornly maintain that they have no evidence of receiving the equipment and will continue to send bills until the amount is paid in full.

We will not pay them anything, and as we advised them will take this matter to the Supreme Court if necessary because we do not owe them one penny and thus they will not receive one penny from us.

BUYER BE WARE; DO NOT ACCEPT ANY "FREE" OFFERS OF ANYTHING FROM MCI WORLDCOM, INC. OR ANY OF THEIR SUBSIDIARIES.

This company is on its way out because consumers will not use their products or services. We are entertaining the thought of possibly filing a lawsuit against them.
