I want to warn people about our RipOff with a contractor out of the LgGrange Ga Area. Originally from Hogansville Ga. His name is Kevin Earl McGhee and he is doing business as McGhee Construction. I am concerned he will take advantage of others in the area areas Columbus/ Lagrange Ga and between there and Wedowee Al locations. He claims to be a licensed home builder and has built homes in the past but after the work started here at my property the quality of the work is not up to ANY building standards.
He does 1000% shoddy work and keeps ALL the money that was suppose to be used to pay vendors for their portion of the job. As of today Kevin Earl McGhee has cashed approximately $105,000.00 in checks at our local bank and we have several vendors who have not been paid for their part in our job. We do not want other people getting ripped off by him or his company.
He also does a lot of metal roof work. If you see McGhee metal roofs or Mcaghee construction on Craigslist advertising services from Atlanta Ga, Newnan Ga, LaGrangeGa, ...PLEASE STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS MAN. He can not build homes as he is not a licensed home builder for the state of Alabama and he is not a licensed home builder for the state of Georgia either. We have major cracks in our retaining wall and at least 12-15 voids in the wall the wall and slab will all have to be torn down and redone.
The dirt under the slab was NOT packed and now the dirt is washing out from under the slab and the slab is now cracked. This all occurred only 1 month after the retaining wall and slab were done. We didn’t get our garage built because we found out he was not licensed to do the job and the state of Alabama shut down our job site. As of today we have paid Kevin McGhee of LaGrange Ga approximately $105,000.00 and the "actual” work done by him appraised for 25-30k. We do not know where our remaining funds of $80,000.00-$85,000.00 went.
He will not provide any receipts or proof of purchase for any materials. Also trusses were ordered from Roberts Components from LaGrange Ga totaling approximately $13,000.00 that were NOT paid for..... we have no idea where our money went that we put Kevin McGhee in charge of for our Garage build. Total of the build was for $125,000.00. I would be happy to provide pictures of the damages we are now trying to figure out how to repair and also figure out how to finish getting our garbage built.
Totals to fix the current damages we have are estimated between $55,000-$65,000.00. Please do not use Kevin Earl McGhee / McGhee Construction from LaGrange Ga. his address for his business is a P.O. Box and he is very hard to find. He has no assets and he has filed multiple bankruptcies in the past. He also has a long and extensive criminal background..... stay away from this man!!!
