I am at the end of my rope! In December of 1997, my husband and I purchased a sofa and loveseat set from Huffman Koos in Farmingdale, New York. We were strongly advised to have Stainguard put on the couches for an additional $150.00. The warranty stated that if you could not get a stain out yourself, Stainguard would come to you by appointment and if they did not succeed, the furniture would be replaced. After owning the set for a mere 2 months, we had a spill of apple juice so we attempted to blot it up with water. WATER staind the couch worse than anything else!! I made 2 separate appointments with Stainguard and waited home all day for them to arrive, which they never did. Steamed at this point, the Farmingdale store refunded me back my $150.00 for the Stainguard fee. After contacting Customer Service too many times and faxing the President of the company, a service call was placed and someone came and looked at my couches. I was told by him that something was wrong with the fabric and it was his belief that the Stainguard ruined my couches. About 2 weeks later I received a letter from Huffman Koos stating that the service assessment was that my couches were abused and the file was now closed. After directly speaking with the President himself, Mr. Russ Grunwald on March 27, 2000, I was told "There is nothing we can do to help you". I do not understand how the president of a company can actually tell a customer that there is nothing they can or will do to help. I have been working in retail for years and I know that you are never to tell this to a customer. The main argument the company is using against me is that the couches only cam with a year long warranty. I have been filing complaints since the couches were only 2-3 months old. I am desperate! I never expected this kind of service from such a reputable store, not to mention that they are outright rude! Please help me!!! Nancy J. Haberman
