Submitted an application for a 0 to 1% interest rate for the chance to purchase a NEW home. These homes were to be for low to moderate income level people, I met their criteria and gave them my application in Oct. Of 2013. I also made them aware of my age (62) and my physical condition, (emphysema) and I was assured that these would not pose a problem. After 15 months of hearing NOTHING I was finally contacted about a house that Habitat purchased and was going to completely remodel and this would be less costly than going for a newly built home. I agreed with them and was told we could do a walk thru in a couple of days. At the time of the walk thru, the rep never showed up but left the door open so I could look the house over which I did. I then called the rep and told him that the house would work for me. At that time the rep completely changed his story and told me I would NOT be buying the house, I would be paying them approx.

100.00$ more a month than I was quoted for a brand new home because they were buying the house by way of a 10 yr. variable interest rate. I was also told I would not be paying any taxes and they would be doing all the maintenance on the house. I only know of 3 ways to acquire a home, have it given to me which they were not about to do, purchase the home by way of a mortgage which I was told I would not get, or lease the home. After I thought this out I came to the conclusion that Habitat for Humanity was attempting to lease me a house for 10 yrs. to pay it off then tell me I could secure a mortgage at 72 yrs. of age (lol) or I could vacate the home and go rent somewhere else and Habitat would then find some 30 something and sell them the home for some outrageous amount thereby making more than twice the amount they (or should I say I paid) for it. BEWARE!!! Habitat for Humanity is NOT a Christian based org. They are a BUSINESS trying to make as much money as they can, any way they can!!!!
